I wanted to go downhill skiing.

Probably because so many of my friends went skiing every winter weekend. But no, my parents said, it was too expensive; and besides, we didn’t live in an area where there was good skiing. That last point didn’t stop my friends and their families, so it never made much sense to me.

Now, I live within an hour’s drive of some of the best downhill skiing in North America, and I can easily afford it. I went once, and it was fun, but that’s the only time I’ve been downhill skiing. It wasn’t so much fun that I feel the need to do it again. (Though I can see where some would really enjoy it.)
