Barbecue. Barbecue is just tolerably-cooked meat with somebody’s version of ketchup on it. Served on styrofoam with a plastic fork. Overpriced. In a noisy place with bare tables and uncomfortable chairs. ---

“Cultural events.” My set of friends attend all variety of poetry readings, museum events, community theatre, and lectures and LOVE them. I attend something with them once in a while but I hate every moment. I have a sneaky suspicion that no one really likes sitting in a hot room for two hours while white poetesses in African garb and “statement” necklaces read poems about their vaginas and cats – they’re just afraid to say so. Vacations to hot, palm tree-y, beach places. Am I the sole person on Earth who hates these places? My ex-partner loved vacations to hot, palmy places and I barely tolerated it. Actually, just about any vacation sucks. I would much rather stay home and read good books, watch movies, and sleep in my own bed. I’ve become a real curmudgeon. ---

I have never liked ketchup, even when I was a kid, and have never acquired the taste for coffee, either. While I can eat something with those in them to be polite, I can taste both of them in microscopic amounts. If I make a recipe that calls for ketchup, I’ll substitute BBQ sauce, salsa, tomato paste, etc. because I don’t buy it. Flavored coffees don’t do anything for me, either, because it’s COFFEE. ---

And flavored coffees are the work of the devil… ---
