Things you've inheirited.

Shortly after my father married my mother, he was shipped off for a tour in Vietnam. While he was there, he sent back to her and her mother each a pearl necklace. That and the fact that he wrote my mom every week while he was overseas really won over my grandparents, who weren’t sure about him.

My grandmother died when I was in third grade. When I graduated with my Bacholor’s degree, my mom gave me the pearl necklace her mother had gotten as a gift. It’s a beautiful three strand necklace that I wish I had more occasion to wear.

My grandmother was a doll collector, the old-fashioned china and bisque fashion dolls, with glass eyes and real hair. I have only one doll she left to me, made out of wax, with a leather body and antique lace gown. It’s worth several thousand dollars but I’d have to truly be in desperate straits to even think of selling it.
