Wow.

Sternvogel : Nope, It is a real animal.

Ximenean : Is that how you spell Pigeon? I thought there was a D in it.

To both: I am glad that you guys don’t know the variant spelling of the answer I had.

Hint: I believe that this spelling is prevalent (more so, than not) in just the southeast.

Give it away hint : Google my user name.

Okay, I did.

RACOON? If I’ve ever seen that, I just assumed it was an error, whether of typography or ignorance. Never knew it was an acceptable variant, but if I were editing copy and it came up, I’d still change the spelling unless it was a direct quote from written material. Even then, I’d be tempted to add a footnote or a _[sic]_ so that a reader didn’t think I’d let a mistake slip by.

Yeah, 🙂 Again, I hate the “variant” spelling as well, but indeed, there it is.

There’s only a D in pigeon if you’re talking about Walter Pidgeon :).
Wigeon (a type of duck) is usually spelled with a D, but if we allow that and racoon you have a five-fer, at least!

There’s also a ‘d’ in “pidgin”, which might explain some of Meeko’s confusion as well.

I’ve thought of many more, but they’re mostly super-easy things like:

Compass direction:
\_O\_TH
or

I guess the 60’s was three-fer cuz I was not thinking of Miller Barber. The guy I was thinking about had a much more impressive resume than Barber. FTR, i always enjoyed watching Barber play golf. his swing had more moves than ex-lax.
