I think the difference you’re seeing is the difference between local car dealer commercials (cheap and loud) and national-level commercials produced for the manufacturers (expensive, flashy and not necessarily loud). The manufacturers’ commercials focus on the product line (“Introducing the new Mercedes Benz 700 Behemoth”) while the local commercials focus on the dealer (“Bring the kids down to Crazy Larry’s Dodge Warehouse!!!”). The local dealers don’t have the cash to spend on slick commercials like the manufacturers do, so they hire talentless local hacks that rely on cheap gimmicks. Why do you see so few cheap, loud local commercials from BMW and Mercedes? I dunno, maybe the smaller market for these cars means there’s only one dealer per market (as opposed to six Toyota dealers in the Seattle area), so the competition isn’t so fierce. Maybe the manufacturer doesn’t allow the dealers to run cheap tacky ads. Maybe the dealers are getting so much business from the manufacturer’s ads they don’t have to advertise. ---

Hey car marketing mooks: The airlines have so far kept their wits about them enough to know that they should never use a Skynard or Buddy Holly (or John Denver, for that matter) song in one of their commercials; why the _fuck_ would make a commercial featuring a T. Rex song? Dumbasses… ---

**Most incessantly annoying:** The one that starts, “I L-O-V-E My” and then they keep spelling and spelling and spelling something I can’t make out for the remainder of commercial, all done really loudly and…ARRGHH!! **Most hateful:** Another one of those SUV “you probably never will but you _could_” that has a bunch of them on a perfectly beautiful green mountain top driving fast and leaving huge tracks and skidding wildly…playing soccer! WTF?!? Haven’t seen this in a while, but I don’t watch TV much, so I’m hoping that they realized how environmentally detestable this came across. Now for a couple of good ones: **Coolest:** No idea what car brand, but it’s got the “Put your body in motion” song and lots of beautiful ladies grooving inside. I can’t get enough of this one. **Personal connection:** Again, no idea what brand, but the one with the guy talking about the 5-second rule when dropping the cookie on the floor. They filmed that on the street right where we live, so all the local stores, restaurants, etc. we pass by every day’s in the commercial. Kinda neat. ---

My favorite car commercial is the one where they have the guy painted up so that when he is motionless he looks like part of the car and you don’t see him at first until he breathes/stands/moves. It is an older commercial, but was really cool. I hate the ford commercials with the lady who is supposedly working on fords electric car playing tricks on the guys working at the gas station/smog station. Sorry, most people would realize that the car is electric and call the driver a ditzy twit for thinking she had to fuel it up. 😕 ---

I remember a car commercial with a subtle but funny mistake in it. It’s one of those commercials that alternates between shots of the car moving and facts about the car (“Zero to 60 in X seconds” and such) dramatically posted on the screen in black and white. So it’s going through its string of facts about the car, and one is “Senses pleased: 5.” 5? Sight – sure, the car can look good. Smell – well, hey, who doesn’t love new-car smell? Feel – sure, the seat’s got to be comfy. Hearing – I suppose it could have a nice CD player in it, or maybe its motor hums pleasingly. How, pray tell, is this car going to please our sense of TASTE??? Shall I eat the steering wheel? Lick the battery? ---

If the commercial was some late 20/early 30s YO man running out of the house after banging a 18 year old farmgirl IMHO you’d have people crying how typicially “sexist” it is. No, it wasn’t funny at all. The brunette lady was a bit of a hottie though. ---

Perhaps the only thing more annoying that the commercial mentioned in the OP is the lawsuit that some plaintiff’s lawyer will file against Saturn, using the commercial as clear evidence that Saturn is encouraging people to drive recklessly. Yup, that should be worth a few mil. ---

Another vote here for the “Put the body in motion” Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial. Wouldn’t mind taking that slim, younger Chrissy Hynde, look-alike brunette that sings out “wind it up, baby!” and do some winding up with her in the back seat of that Eclipse. Yeah, baby, yeah… …oh my god, was I thinking out loud again!!! 😃 ---

There’s a VW Beetle commercial that starts off with some guy on a ladder with gloves cleaning pulpy leaves out of his gutters. The commercial says something like “Wouldn’t you rather be using your weekend to drive around in a Beetle?” Maybe, but then _you’d still have shitty looking gutters_. Maybe it’s just me. But that commercial is annoying. ---
