Morning Mumpers! It’s going to be 76 degrees Amurikin today. I’m going to Mass after work.
I’d normally spell it Holon (Holon if I get all cutesy with the coding :)), but I know exactly what you meant. Yes, it has **definitely** grown a little bit since then… and it has probably doubled again in the last almost-30 years.

I was thinking that if your parents arrived in '48 (rather than '46-'47) perhaps they were “guests” of the British in the Cyprus camps where “illegal” immigrants from post-war Europe, who were caught, got sent?

As for your age – geroffmylawn, whippersnapper! 😃
I’ll ask my folks about that if they came through Cypress- my sister was a baby, so she won’t know! We know more about their wanderings through Europe after Israel on their way to the US than about how they got to Israel!

I still have lots of family in Israel, cousins mostly,- in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

By the by- you’re the same age as my husband, don’t get all “grumpy old man” on me! 🙂

holy cow - it’s Ash Wednesday already??? Crimeny - soon they’ll be putting Christmas decorations back up

I remember when I was very young, one of my paternal aunts and my two maternal great aunts went to Israel together for a vacation, and that’s when I started listening to the Original Cast recording of Land Of Milk And Honey. And in my Sabbath School class taking about taking a summer trip to Israel, then the 6-Day War happened and suddenly everyone was afraid to travel there.

Name him Bailey. No idea why-just do it.

Yeah, that whole Heinz thingy. It’s one of those obnoxious things that has no “right” answer. Me, I’d probably try to steal the drug. Or kill the pharmacist. IMO, the situation is too dumbed down to be of any use in determining the ethics of the situation. Maybe Kohlberg was simple minded?

Sorry about all Teh Sickies–stay away from ME. \<makes sign against evil eye etc\>
She just wanted my thoughts on it. I don’t want to think about it at all–it seems to me that there would be a third option or something. Something about it just smacks of set up to me. Of course it IS a made up situation, but I’m just not interested in hypotheticals right now…

So would women steal the medicine and men wouldn’t or vice versa? IOW, give me the answer–I’ll let you copy off my paper later in the semester. 😉
The theory is that men will answer within the boundaries of the situation, while women will give the response you gave - the possibility of a third option. In other words, women tend to think about variables not mentioned in the situation (if he goes to jail, what good will it do if his wife gets better? do they have children? couldn’t he appeal to a foundation? etc) while men will respond purely based on what’s been set up (human life is above all else vs no one is above the law).

Liked those oven mits. [Take a look at this girl’s food inspired knitting.](http://www.twinkiechan.com/) I discovered her site when I developed an online crush on a t-shirt advertisement on the [icanhazcheeseburger.com](http://icanhazcheeseburger.com) site.

She still pops up at icanhaz every now and then, but I was able to to track her down by emailing the t-shirt store, and they forwarded her myspace address to me. I thought about emailing her, but I breakdown into nervous giggles every time I make a legitimate attempt

Snarl. Hiss. Grousegrousegrouse. I was all snug in my bed last night ignoring my roommates’ yammering on their phones when Complicated Roommate knocked on my door to tell me my cat Peter got out. Peter is an inside cat who gets lost five feet from the door. I stomped outside, found him behind the shed (lost), stomped back in, and gave him to CR to bathe. That’s his punishment (which one, you ask? Both). Saves me the trouble of having to wash the cat this weekend, too.

After that I didn’t get back to sleep until after 1. Good thing I wasn’t going into work until 10 today. I have to catch up on some hours Archivin’. I’m already a few hours ahead in Referencin’ and I like to keep things equal.

I’m trying to be good with my money, I really am, but I think today will call for a Chai. Whoever decided to put a coffeeshop in the library is an evil bastard who will die a millionaire.
**Haze** and other Midwesterners, you should see North Carolina snow days. Two inches of snow and the whole state shuts down. Everyone goes outside to play! Truly we are a deprived people.

Heh, you just described a Jerusalem snow day. or what one would look like in Tel-Aviv **if** we ever got any snow at all… (once, for 20 minutes, in 19[del]60[/del]50, it actually happened!)

See, my first response to that Heinz dilemma is that the pharmacist can’t be legally offering that drug for sale in any case because he hasn’t gone through the whole FDA approval process. Plus he’s going to have to sell the manufacturing process to a large, evil corporation that has the funding to pay to get it through the FDA approval process and put it into production, so it’s going to be out of his hands in any case. And probably both the man AND his wife will be dead by the time the drug gets on the market. 😃

So whaddaya think of my solution? 😃

That food-inspired stuff isn’t knitting, **beebs** , it’s crochet. Big difference. Us knitters consider ourselves _far_ advanced from simple crocheters. Knitting is considerably more challenging, after all. Right, **Shadow**? :dubious: 😃

**Mooom** , I had a friend whose Head Cat was named Gurdjieff. Which actually was helpful as his name came up recently in a transcript (_everything_ comes up in a transcript sooner or later) and I still remembered how to spell it. So if you want to totally confuse the folks at the vet’s office, you could name him Gurdjieff. But I still think Dog is the best name for a Bengal!

**Spaz** , why are you washing your cat? I’ve never had a cat that needed washing unless it got into something truly horrifying; cats are self-cleaning, after all. 😉

I’m here this morning, still chugging along with Snooty Old Lady’s interview. The Idiots are outside barking at something – probably one of the evil Attack Squirrels that lives in the trees around the back yard – and it’s supposed to be 70° here, too, so I’m opening the house up in stages as I get the energy to wander into another room and open a window or three.

Back to work. Or something.

Gah. I am looking online for haircuts/styles. I am frustrated.

1. I don’t want to look like Posh. Really. Or Paris. Seriously.

2. “medium” hairstyles are NOT “medium” to me–I have to be able to pull my hair up or back for work.

3. “Long” hair styles–never wanted to look like Stevie Nicks, thankyouverymuch. Not into weird Princess Leia type “do’s”, either.

4. Where are the normal looking people? I want something that frames my face, a few layers (too many layers and my hair goes insane), something that says, “hello–I’m an attractive 40something professional woman…Not too old, not too young.”

It doesn’t appear to exist. I have a high forehead and lately it’s bugging me. My hair is thick, curly and I do not like a lot of fuss with it.

Any ideas? Off to do stuff and think about this (trying to think of a celeb whose hair I like that matches mine in texture etc–no one comes to mind. I really like her hair: [SelaWard](http://www.fox.com/house/gallery/index.htm?epi=failuretocommunicate) However, my hair is more like Cuddy’s
[Cuddy’s side of head](http://www.fox.com/house/gallery/index.htm?epi=needtoknow)

I have about 4 times the hair Sela Ward does. Mine is curlier than Cuddy’s (Lisa Edelstein in RL). Gah-no idea what to do. Glommed onto these haircuts because I’ve been watching so much House.

1. Need something to break up the Great White North that is my forehead (proof here): [curls, 2008](http://www.flickr.com/photos/19350879@N07/2246750568/)

2. Want to be able to put hair up or back as needed.

3. Am willing to flatiron it, but not much more than that–styling hair is boring. Better things to do with my time…

4. ?

5. Help, please.

thanks.
