This Deserves a Warning

There is no specific format for moderation. If it is a formal warning you get notified through the site so there is no mistaking that. Beyond that each mod can give out their notes and instructions how they wish. In this case the post was moderated. ITD chose to instruct rather than warn. There are very few bright lines as to where a post would get a warning instead of a note. All I can say is we take the totality of the circumstances when determining to warn or note. The bottom line is both posts were moderated for breaking the same rule.

No, I preface all my mod notes with Mod Hat On. It was modded with a note. We all have different styles to indicate we’re taking moderation action.

I am familiar with the warning issued in the Gorilla thread (linked up thread) and felt the comment I modded walked up to that line but didn’t cross it. I considered the tone of the thread and the specific comment and chose to try to direct the thread with a note rather than a warning. Folks here are right that I tend to note rather than warn, and I think on balance that this strategy works for me in the forums I moderate.

For the record:

  1. I apologize for the comment and agree it crossed a line.

  2. I would never, under any circumstances, direct a threat or wish for harm towards anyone’s children or family members. The comment was directed towards the poster, not his children.

Seriously Zeke looking at your join date, I would have expected you to have a bit thicker skin. You’re reacting like you joined in the last 12 months.

I blame muldoonthief for the kid being taken by the crocodile.

It was an alligator. No further comment, except that I do own a crocodile skin wallet, though the inside pockets are kangaroo leather.

Well, Christ. Now a kangaroo is going to murder someone.

Thanks a lot, dude.

BEWAARRE!

Not if the dingos can get there first!

Wild dingos only eat faces. I learned that from some nature show or David Letterman; one of the two.

Say What?!?!

Ah, so you were there. :dubious:

Dingo eats THOSE Faces he’s gonna end up drunk.

Dropbears will get them all.

ALL.

I’d say that calling someone else “a piece of work” would be worthy of at least a note, possibly a warning depending on the circumstances. So 2 warnable points in 1 post :smack:

An obvious reference to Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, a reverential look at the comedian’s life, that attempted to expose the struggles, sacrifices and joy of living life as a ground breaking female performer.

And for that you think the poster should be warned?
