I can tell you that Mr. One-Fifth Dutch lies a lot; around here we all find it terribly amusing that he says he’s 1/5 Dutch. We all thought about it a little and figured… there’s no way! I just wanted to see if I was missing something.
By the way, he also claims that he can become a Dutch citizen at any time because of his Dutch “heritage.” I called bullshit on this immediately. I doubt the guy could even get a green card. Og knows I couldn’t when I lived there. (We’re both American by the way)
If you are a Nederlander, feel free to chime in on the possiblity of him getting citizenship (without the usual stuff like getting married to a Dutch girl or guy).
Bullshit, AFAIK. It IS possible, though for (children of) immigrants to and from the Netherlands to have dual nationalities. Many children of Morrocan immigrants who became Ducht citizens, for instance, have both the Dutch passports and nationality and the Moroccan ones.
But in those cases, they had both nationalities to start out with and just weren’t forced to give up one of them. Your friends false claim that he can get a Dutch passport because of his heritage may have its roots here.
