This is small consolation, but a small ray of light from this mess: a good friend of mine happens to be a physician in a conservative part of the US and currently has a patient with a beating-heart, but doomed, fetus. In the past, she’s had to fight with hospital and nursing staff to get pregnant women the treatment they needed. This time, with this debacle recently in the news, the nursing staff were immediately and completely supportive. Hopefully, this will last. ---

I’m amazed and heartened that the news of Savita’s needless death has travelled that far and has had an impact. ---

Maddow was reporting tonight that several states are already back on the anti-abortion, anti-birth control trail. ☹ ---

The most interesting one I’ve heard of so far was in Skopje, Macedonia. ---
