this is just horrible [tenant evicted after landlord loses property in foreclosure]

Let’s say that a person engages in a business transaction where there is a risk of X happening. X is a reasonably foreseeable event. If X happens, I have no sympathy for the person if they are crying about it and saying “Oh no, X happened! Oh woe is me!” If the person has a legal or contractual right to recover from someone else for the damages caused by X, then of course they can pursue their available remedies, but I’m not going to feel bad for them or think that they’ve suffered something just because X happened.

You should be able to apply the simple principles I’ve outlined to the rest of your post yourself.

I don’t know where you live or what sort of amoral people are renting houses in your area, but both the landlord and real estate broker failing to mention that a foreclosure was already in progress at the time that the woman began the rental is not reasonably foreseeable because it is behavior which is entirely unreasonable. (Not to mention unethical.)

Yes, thank you.

The above doesn’t answer one of my questions, though.

Legalities aside:

Do you think the landlord’s behavior was unethical?

And by extension:

Do you think Bernie Madoff’s behavior was unethical? Or construction companies that deliberately cut corners to save money regardless of the consequences?

I’m guessing that if a pedestrian gets killed after being hit by someone who ran a red light, Rand Rover would say it’s their own fault for crossing the street in the first place (even though the “WALK” sign was on)

Bankers who sell to tenants with proven track records and decent credit are smarter than those who sell for a little more money at auction to speculators.

Stable homeowners will make for stable neighborhoods, enhancing the value of all assets held by the bank in that area of town.

Blind sales to peole who may well be absentee owners could well degrade the area and bring down the long-term value of bank assets in the area.

Take a long view. Offer these properties to trustworthy citizens of proven reliability and build real, lasting value.

Socialist!

I’m guessing that no matter how many times I explain what I believe you’ll still post stuff like this.

Since when was a landlord foreclosing and not returning a security deposit a “Reasonably foreseeable event”? I’ve never in my entire life heard of that happening, and I’ve rented quite a few places and known people who did. Rental properties have historically been pretty safe from such things, and you almost always get your security deposit back in a no-fault eviction. So what fucking galaxy are you from that this was “reasonably foreseeable” from the renter’s perspective? Do you live in Bankruptcyland?

You must have ignored where I said that none of this applies to the security deposit. I was responding only to the people saying that the eviction itself was horrible.

Why not-it’s a “reasonably foreseable risk?” Far more likely to happen than the situation mentioned in the OP, shithead.

Guin, be honest with me for just one minute. Does it actually hurt to be as stupid as you are?

RR, answer honestly:

Do you get a thrill by being a boil on the asscrack of humanity?

Fucking troll.

Rand, you are trying to argue with a girl who has never lived without her parents full support. It is very easy to tell everyone how they should live if they never have to take resposibility for themselves.

As to the rest…anyone who claims that this came out of nowhere for the woman in question are just bullshitting themselves. The housing situation is fraught with those who overextended themselves–this woman included. Will it be difficult to recover? Sure. Such is life, life is not always fair. The thing is, people always want a safety net but rarely provide it for themselves.

Do you actually understand the situation? Please describe it to me.

Not nearly as much as it must hurt to be such sociopathic shithead. Seriously-it’s been pointed out to you time and time again that the situations you consider “foreseable” are not always so. And yet you ignore that in favor of being an asshole, just to taunt those who are less fortunate than you. And THEN, when people tell you what an asshole you are, you claim it’s because of your political beliefs. I only wish my period was as regular as your reactions.

Why don’t you remind how us how much money you make again, hmmm? THAT should make you feel like you’re almost a REAL MAN.

Meh, come back when you’ve got something new.

You are a troll!

Please explain to me where the linked article indicates this woman was having any problems making rent or any other payments for any debts she entered into.

Sure I understand the situation and it is terrible. I would be very angry if I was in this situation. The difference between you and me is that I would be angry with myself. I can see how I would do things differently to protect myself and my family. I would have rented below my apparent means and taught my daughters that work, savings and planning for all circumstances is prudent. I understand that this is not mainstream thinking but it has served me well–I have never had to go to the media and try to garner sympathy for my situation.

You know, Guin, I once gave you some advice regarding your teeth–you claimed every suggestion was impossible–so how is that last tooth hanging in??

Please describe it to me.
