I’m not usually a fan of the Apatow gang’s comedy _oeuvre_, but this movie has some great laughs. Without giving away anything, I can say this: you don’t want to mess with either Emma Watson or Danny McBride! 😛 ---

I agree. I saw it on Wednesday and thought it was pretty funny. It would have helped to be slightly shorter, but it was overall pretty good and worth the money. ---

I thought it was just okay and not as funny as I was hoping. I liked the douche-y versions of everyone and I think I would have rather them craft a more traditional story around that rather than with the Apocalypse angle. ---

I admit I’m not the target audience for this kind of movie (I’m 63) and I’ve never seen any of their other movies (except James Franco), but I did find this pretty funny. Speaking of age, I think I was the only one in the theater that got the Rosemary’s Baby reference. "This isn’t a dream. It’s really happening!"I also agree that the apocalyptic setting was pretty weird, but for what they wanted to do I guess it needed something drastic. I would give it just under 3 stars (out of 4). Saw it tonight and thought it was pretty funny. I agree it could have been a bit shorter, but it worked. I think the apocalyptic angle means that they probably wanted to initially release it in late 2012 (right before the Mayan end of the world), but it got pushed back. ---

I saw it last night and it did go on too long, which made it feel narcissistic. But there were some very funny bits. The exorcism scene slayed me. They made Jonah Hill play a creepily nice version of himself for the whole movie and then finally let him do what he’s good at in this sarcastic Exorcist parody. I loved that. Hearing Pazuzu or the demon or whatever say those things with Jonah Hill’s inflection was very funny. And I remember really liking “God, it’s me, Jonah Hill- from Moneyball” and the comparison of the Trinity to Neapolitan ice cream. Those were both kind of Simpsons-y jokes, actually. And Michael Cera was really good. Not just ‘ha ha, I’m playing against type,’ but committed to playing a nauseatingly unpleasant version of himself. Either right before or right after that bathroom scene, someone sitting behind me said something like “Oh, George-Michael!” ---

I haven’t seen this yet (and I skimmed the thread to avoid spoilers) but I’m excited about it. I didn’t care for Superbad (it was funny, but too rapey for me to feel comfortable) but I loved Pineapple Express. I know it’s a stoner flick, but I swear to god, I’ve never laughed that hard in a movie theater. ---

Just caught this and loved it. The premise that pretty much every celebrity is a douchy narcissistic scumbag unworthy of Heaven was perfect. Even sweet Emma Watson! The best had to be Franco’s fall from grace, nicely tied in to the earlier conversation where he wanted his character in Pineapple Express 2 to sacrifice himself for Rogen and then Danny McBride’s character wouldl eat him, just because that’s a fucked up way to go. So many great scenes, but my favorite had to be the conversation when they finally accepted that was the Apocalypse: Seth: So God, huh? I guess that means he’s real. I haven’t lived my life as if God was real. Who saw that coming? Jay: I think, like, 95% of the world’s population saw that coming. Seth: Jesus fucking Christ. Craig: You probably shouldn’t say that. Seth: What? Jesus fucking Christ? Craig: Yeah, that’s a commandment. Don’t take God’s name in vain. Seth: “Jesus Christ” isn’t God’s name. “God” is God’s name. Who saw that coming? Bwahaha.
