Oh; and my main problem with Vegans is that as a long time science fiction reader it just sounds _wrong_ to call someone that if they aren’t from Vega. Sort of as if some dietary group called themselves Klingons. ---

His point was that we’re using a lot of “the word “taco” means something, dammit, you can’t call it a taco if there’s not a corn or flour based shell!” logic here, the same as SSM haters often say, “the word marriage means something, dammit, you can’t call it a marriage if there’s not a man and a woman!” _shrug_ Yeah, I see it, I just don’t see it as sufficient reason to abrogate human rights, 'sall. If you mean to say that a married male couple calling themselves married is annoying and you wish they wouldn’t, well then…okay. But as no one’s trying to legally stop the OP’s wife from calling her creation a taco or gaining legal protections and benefits otherwise claimed by tacos with a shell, the situations aren’t equivalent, as \*\*Rhythmdvl \*\*acknowledges in his post. It’s pointing out an insight into thought process, not claiming we’re all hypocrites…I think. ---

Thanks **WhyNot**. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. I never quite got (and still don’t, really) most anti-SSM arguments or how anyone could really give two tacos what’s happening down the street. I was just pointing out that this thread/topic game me a faint understanding of what’s going on at the visceral, emotional level in their heads. ---

And why the vegan hatred of cheese anyway? It’s not they kill cows to get milk. I was always under the impression it was the killing of an animal that made animal products off-limits to them. ---

They view some of the practices of the dairy industry (such as hormone treatment to force milk production) as abusive. Some vegans view any use of animal products as exploitive. That’s why even honey can be verboten. ---

D’oh, missed **runner pat** ’s post. Sorry. There’s also [this guy](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=198446&highlight=vegetarian). What I hate about how my mother makes tacos – she doesn’t like spicy and/or hot foods, so she uses sloppy joe seasoning. It still tastes good if you put on all the condiments, but it’s not the same.
