In reading one of the four (4!) lead stories this morning about the Chinese balloon, not one mention occurred of the Department of Defense’s casual acknowledgement of three balloons crossing US airspace during the Trump administration. One had to read the comments to learn of this, whereupon the information was largely dismissed because “you can’t trust the DoD to tell the truth.” If you want to see conservative brain gymnastics at its finest in these instances, please check out Magiver’s work in our own balloon thread. ---

There’s a fairly popular Army meal with an icky name: Shit on a Shingle. Of course that’s not the official name of creamed chipped beef on toast, but it’s very easy to see how it got the unofficial name. ---

When I lived in Busan, there was a pizza place about a block away from my apartment. The pizzaria was named _Street Pizza_. That was actually a terrible name for it because the local English slang (employed by us foreigners) for a large puddle of vomit on the road was _street pizza/road pizza_. Mighty good pizza…from the pizzaria that is, not the street. ---
