I’ve been doing this little rhyme on kids feet for years, and always saying: This little piggy stayed home. This little piggy had roast beef. This little piggy had none. This little piggy said WEEEE all the way home. My mom, from whom I had to have learned this, was watching me the other day and said that I should use “the other one” some of the time. I didn’t know another one, but she told me that I should say: This little piggy went to market. This little piggy couldn’t get over the doorstep. This little piggy had corned beef and cabbage. This little piggy had taters. This little piggy said WEEEE all the way home. According to her, what I was saying was the English version, and the other one is the Irish version. (He can’t get over the doorstep because he’s drunk, corned beef and cabbage was a holiday meal, taters for every day - her explanation.) She says she learned both from her mother, who would do one on each foot. Mom seems to think this is a way of preserving cultural diversity. Has anyone else ever heard the “Irish” version? Anyone English or Irish care to comment? ---

I don’t can’t work out the rhythm of the second one: stayed home = 2 syllables. couldn’t get over the doorstep = 8 roast beef = 2 corned beef and cabbage = 5 (and gas!) none = 1 taters = 2 And I always thought it was "wee wee wee all the way home. " Wheee! ---

I always thought the third line was this little piggy had _rare_ roast beef. ---

I make 'em up on my daughter’s feet all the time. This little piggy went to market This little piggy was a clown This little piggy hugged a doggie This little piggy was too brown And this little piggy said _weee weee weee_ all the way home. My wife, eyes rolling, calls it the idiot’s version. ---

The little piggies went out to dinner one night. They sat at the bar waiting for their table and the waiter askes them for their drink order. “I’ll have a beer.” said one piggie. “I’ll have a glass of wine.” said another piggie. “I’ll just have water, please. Lot’s and lots of water.” the littlest piggie said. A little while later, they sit down to dinner, and the waiter comes to take their order. “I’ll have the beef.” said the first piggie. “I’ll have the chicken.” said the other piggie. “I’ll just have water, please. Lot’s and lots of water.” the littlest piggie said. The water looks at the little piggie strangely, but doesn’t say a word. He just turns toward the kitchen to put in their order. After dinner, the dessert cart comes around. “I’ll have the chocolate cake.” said the first piggie. “I’ll have banana cream pie.” said the other piggie. “I’ll just have water, please. Lot’s and lots of water.” the littlest piggie said. “OK,” says the waiter, “why have you ordered nothing but water tonight?” The little piggie looks at him like he’s dumber than a box of rocks and says, “Hello!! I’m the one that has to go _wee wee wee_ all the way home.” Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. 🙂 ---

“One little piggie went to market” - wasn’t at dinner “One little piggie stayed home” - again, wasn’t at dinner “One little piggie had roast beef” - noted above “One little piggie had none” - but he did have the chicken “One little piggie went _wee wee wee_ all the way home.” - after drinking water. Lots and lots of water. It all works out. 😃 ---
