I respectfully disagree with those who sneered at the pic linked in the OP. You’d be hard pressed to find an strictly logical individual more inclined away from maudlin sentiment than I, but that was the first image I’ve seen that really did capture my feelings. I’ve been mostly silent on the subject to my mate and others since I began watching the events as they took place live yesterday - the second plane crashed live on my tv as I was cleaning up breakfast. This image somehow brought my thoughts and feelings to expression. Thanks to **reeder** for posting that. Sentimental? Sure. But maybe just the image some of us need to convey the unexpressible emotion. At the moment, it is simply too soon for some of us to yet feel anything but the sorrow - too soon for “We will triumph!”, although I do hope that ultimately prevails. “The American Spirit” is one thing, and I share it. The mourning spirit is far more quiet and personal for each individual, and I appreciate the attempt to reach it. ---

Some of the pics that really got to me. Someone on another MB (a Dutch car MB) linked to these earlier today. Although none of the ones posted appear to the be the picture I was talking about, I think the LA Times picture may have been one of these pictures but cropped and enlarged. ---

[Bartcop](http://www.bartcop.com)has some good spread around the 4 pages of disaster coverage, including a couple of political cartoons from today. The current front page has some way liberal Bush bashing on it you should just ignore. ---

Anybody seen a picture of the Wednesday San Francisco Chronicle front page? It has a photo of one of the buildings in flames with the headline “BASTARDS!” Probably the best description of the day I’ve seen. ---

There was a quick shot on CNBC this morning of a close-up of the statue partially covered in soot. Positively striking. For imagery, this takes close to top spot in my humble opinion. ---
