Well, I can understand not wanting to make a scene, but do you really think they’d have physically removed her from the plane? What if the baby didn’t like being under a blanket. What if the woman noticed some chickie across the aisle who was flashing more boob than she was. I suppose you’d have to back down if you really wanted to get where you were going, but I’d be more inclined to ignore the woman and wait for the press coverage when they grab the nursing mother and remove her from the plane.
Well, I have to admit that the article doesn’t say literally how she was removed (like, physically escorted or what), but I THINK that if flight personnel tell you you have to get off the plane, then you have to do it. Not sure what would have happened if the air marshalls had to get involved! You are right that if it’s really important to you to make a stand, that simply continuing what you are doing is probably the best way to get your message across. Nonviolent protest, as it were.

Yeah, air marshall-wise, I’m sure they’d throw your breastfeeding self into Club Fed for 15 to life. They really have lost their sense of reason in the past few years.
The only thing “wrong” with most people who object to public breastfeeding is simply that they’re still operating by an etiquette convention (which was almost universally accepted in American society until perhaps the past 10–15 years, btw) that says breastfeeding in public is not appropriate. Like I said, I’m all for changing that convention to make public breastfeeding universally acceptable, and I’m glad it’s already changed quite a bit.
There are many, many things that were acceptable a few decades ago (or earlier) that our societies do not tolerate now. People can still believe those things, but they are not allowed to try and make others behave as they wish, or impose those beliefs on others. We do not give them a pass, nor should we do in this case.

I don’t care what people think, and sorry if I keep repeating this, just as long as they get off my hair.
Oh, from the article:

> But last month a nursing mother was ejected from a plane about to take off in Vermont because she was trying to breastfeed her baby
I doubt that the plane was actually powering down the runway with flaps extended when Junior started crying for the boob. More likely the crew was getting ready to leave the gate.

Actually, on further reflection the plane was certainly still at the gate, since the article mentions a ticket agent who actually kicked the family off the plane.

I don’t see a negative there. 😉
