It must be quite motivating though to genuinely 100% _believe_ that God himself has destined that you will win. For that alone, I reckon Goran’ll do it. Incidentally as at this time, Goran is 2-1 up in sets but a break down in the fourth. pan ---

Although I was disappointed that Rafter didn’t win, it was good seeing Goran finally winning tennis’ holy grail. Can you imagine if he had lost it for a FOURTH time?? I think a fourth Goran would emerge to shoot the other three. Another good thing to come out of Rafter’s loss is that maybe getting so close twice will make him rethink his retirement. ---

[arrogant Aussie bastard hat on] I notice that Butcher, Stewart and Atherton have all indicated that they do not want the captaincy whilst Hussain is injured. It would seem that considerations include players who could not make the team even in the absence of two first-pick batsmen! Sundries was indeed the correct terminology of my school days and I regret its passing in English cricket. FWIW, I suspect they will continue to contribute a sizeable proportion of the score until English Asians provide the majority of the English team – it’s a sad fact that cricket continues to wane amongst the general population and I believe the continued enthusiasm of the ethnic minorities is the only real mid-term hope. The composition of the England eleven in, say, 10 years will be quite radically different. I’m reading that Jonny Wilkinson is 50/50 for Saturday – presumably that means he’ll play (and the rest is misinformation). This is a great relief. I’m getting nervous already. God only knows who will replace Hussain (as batsman and as captain) – time for some fresh young blood, I hope. Rumours are suggesting Trescothick might be the captain. ---

Still a little dazed, here. Not overly impressed with the Lions leadership on the pitch or the management off. Great spirit by the Dodgers, crap tactics by the Lions. Shouldn’t have happened. Not as if things are about to improve (Second Test starting Thursday), either. Bollocks. ---

Never seen a Dodger on a bike before. Seen a few late at night walking down the road with expensive wheels but I guess that’s just free enterprise 😉 Second Test just underway at Lords. Atherton is captain, lost the toss (that makes 13 out of the past 14 in Ashes Tests) and is batting…wait, bad light just stopped play. Thorpie’s back (hurrah !) as is Ramprakash (may God help us). We’ve gone for an all seamer attack …scary huh ? (shuttup in the cheap seats). Your lot is unchanged. Will England hang on for an heroic rain affected draw ? The Open’s also underway this morning, any golf fans out there ? ---

Geez, how did I miss this thread for so long? I wouldn’t have got nearly as excited about the rugby if that Pommy player (whatshisname) hadn’t been shooting his mouth off about “uncouth Orrrrstralians” prior to the game. I’d like to see the English do better at Lord’s. Great to see Australia as a dominant force in cricket, but a strong English side is good for the game (and to cut the Aussies down to size a bit - they still have a bit of arrogance to lose). ---
