ā€¦lets forget about the OP for a minute. WARNING: video link to raw footage of a dead Eric Garner, surrounded by police for six minutes, who are pretending that Eric is still alive and breathing. Even if he was actually alive in that footage: there was no attempt to even keep his airway open. They just let his head flop around. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from the cops in this instance. ---

Eric Garner did not give the police officers an easy choice. Heā€™s Einsteinā€™s definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. But that is absolutely no excuse for making one of the worst of the bad choices available and compounding it. ---

As a retired New York State Emergency Medical Technician, I am utterly disgusted. The head of the FDNY EMS Division ( the Fire Department oversees the ambulance service in NYC. NYC EMS is not separate, has not been for many many years ) stood there and said basically, " The NYPD has their protocols. We have ours. We bend to theirs if they are subduing a perpetrator ". Nice, fucknugget. Your very first responsibility is to save a life. To protect life. Not to stand around and watch a man go into cardiac arrest right in front of you because a cop is standing there. Oh, theyā€™ve already lawyered up. Trust me, they have defense. The Union representing both PBA and FDNY members will defend their actions to the hilt. Successfully, of course. See, it wasnā€™t a choke hold. You canā€™t repeatedly say, " I canā€™t breathe ! " when you canā€™t breathe. Choking means zero air flow, crushing the trachea. This fellow was shoved to the ground and because of his pre-existing conditions suffered a cardiac arrest. Rubbinā€™ my crystal bawl here, going with what always works. Prosecute the dead victim, diefy the cop. Give it 6 months. The families will have been bought out, the NYPD will have been ā€œre-trainedā€ in choke hold. ---

I remember the case. Followed it as it happened. They had a VERY hard time exonerating Livoti, who did time as seen above. As I wrote, in this case, he wasnā€™t being choked to death. He may well have been choked into respiratory distress that led to his cardiac arrest. Time will tell, we hope.
