Let’s see, the big Grammy nominees this year are: Backstreet Boys, Cher, Ricky Martin, Santana, TLC, Dixie Chicks, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Lou Bega, Sixpence None the Richer, 'N Sync & Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez, etc, etc, etc… Not to offend, but Jesus! This is the best we can do? These are the best in the music industy? Have the “Record of the Year” and “Album of the Year” nominees always been so damned pathetic? Pretty boys and teeny boppers who, for the most part, are all singing the same damn song? Did they write it? Do they play it? Have they any talent? No? Lets give 'em a Grammy… I don’t wonder why a Grammy doesn’t mean a damn thing… ---

I wholeheartedly agree, RD. I went to the “Y’all 2K Peach Drop” at Underground Atlanta for the New Year’s celebration. During the festivities, they played segments of the Top 10 Songs of 1999. Wasn’t a single damn song on that list that I like. #1 was “Believe” by Cher. If ever there was a song that made me feel like gouging someone’s eyes out… ---

Yes,I have roamed the earth for 26 long years, lately wondering if each breath would be my last… I think I still fall into the coveted demographic… Parents of the world need to cut down on their childrens allowance so that the 11-14 year olds can no longer dictate pop culture. ---

I don’t mean to be a me-too’er, but I agree that Santana is the only decent artist in that bunch. (except, of course, for the lovely Tori Amos, who’s nominated for two of 'em) I’m 21, and I think 99% of the nominated “artists’” songs sound like the auditory equivalent of regurgitated weasel feces. ---

The Grammies have never been known for picking the best of the year. It’s always whatever’s popular, as well as an occasional attempt to honor an artist who’d been criminally overlooked for years (which explains Santana). The list of Grammy winners has always been incredibly short sighted and lame (Remember when A Taste of Honey won best new artist, beating out Elvis Costello?). I saw the list, and wanted to cry too. But this year is different in that I actually know all the artists nominated. My bet is that Ricky Martin, and Backstreet Boys will collect most of the big awards. It’s sad, but true. I just have one question. Have any of you actually heard Christina Aguilera sing? I’ve heard her entire album, and her voice is more mature than her looks, or her sugar coated lyrics. Put that voice on a great song, and you may be on to something.
