In regards to the menstruation comment: You can purchase pads for thongs. ---

If you have a heavier flow and can’t use tampons/menstrual cups/sponges/instead, then I guess you’re stuck with non-thong underwear for the duration of your period. Not really much of a punishment, IMO. ---

Some thongs are more comfortable than others. If I wear them, they are plain, cotton thongs. I learned quickly when my SO gave me some thongs sewn with plastic thread to stick with the cotton stuff. I don’t wear thongs every day. If leakage would be an issue, I think I would choose to wear something else that day.
