I just can’t buy that Jabba has any genuine sexual attraction to Leia and the Twilek dancer. It’d be as weird a fetish as a human who finds slugs sexy. And who not only finds slugs sexy, but finds the specific slugs that slugs themselves would consider attractive to be especially sexy. Even if there might in history have been one or two people for whom that’s true, it’s far more common for powerful men to use sex as a status symbol. Why assume that it’s a combination of power and sex, when the power part alone can explain it, and the sex part would be so bizarre? ---

Hell, there’s Jabba the Hutt porn on the internet right now. Moreover, there’s a really long tradition in pulp science fiction of gross aliens who want our women for immoral purposes. When LucasFilm launched the CGI _Clone Wars_ TV show, they led it off with a story that introduced [Ziro the Hutt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GGP7pgCyAc). Who is basically Truman Capote as a giant space slug. Canonically, at least when this was made, Hutts are hermaphrodites, each member having both male and female reproductive organs. So talking about Hutts in terms of “gay” or “straight” doesn’t really work. The character, clearly, can’t be _written_ as gay, because that doesn’t make sense for his species. On the other hand, _listen to how he speaks_! You don’t say, “Make him so he sounds like Truman Capote,” (which apparently was Lucas literal suggestion) without implying something about the characters sexuality - even when that implied sexuality doesn’t make sense for the way the character’s written. He’s portrayed using a number of stereotypes that have long been short hand for, “We can’t come out and say it, but this guy is totally gay.” That’s what’s going on with the reaction some people are having to the Grandmaster in Ragnarok. Is the character gay within the fiction of the story? If you went up to the character and said, “Hey, you into dudes or what?” I have no idea what he’d say. But he’s being portrayed in a way that says “queer” pretty clearly, at least to a lot of people. ---

If you didn’t get a queer vibe off him, you didn’t get a queer vibe off him. I’m not saying that that this is the only correct way to read his performance, I’m just trying to explain the difference between a character who reads as gay, and a character who is written as gay, and why objections like, “He’s not even human!” only apply to the former, not the latter. ---

Well, he was certainly written as a hedonist, no matter how you interpret “written as”. What specifically is pleasurable to him, though, we don’t know, beyond the obvious of “getting lots of attention”. ---

We saw that she abducted Thor on Sakarr and sold him to the Grandmaster, so it’s obviously something she does. And she said she had a starship. So while she got lucky and found Thor already on the planet, she normally has to go out to other planets and grab fighters. ---

The question then becomes “How did the quinjet get to Sakaar?” It’s doubtful Valkyrie would take it along if she was grabbing Banner from Earth. So it had to get to a portal somehow. ---
