I was wondering if those Dopers who are less irony-impaired than I could explain any hidden meaning, sarcasm etc. hidden in these ‘got chocolate milk’ commercials that show youths being inconsiderate asses while sadiating their apparent yen for shaken chocolate milk in a rather creative and rude fashion? ---

Do you have a link or something? The last one I remember seeing was the one where the kid mails himself the chocolate milk so it’s well shaken or whatever. ---

No link at present, but the commercials where the poorly-dressed kid at the chocolatier smashes abruptly a few bonbons to chocolify his bottle of milk and the new one (where a youth defaces the UPC on a bottle of milk, causing the cashier to scan it repeatedly, thus shaking the milk and barely changing the kid’s irritating expression) come instantly to mind. ---

I thought he bought the bonbons, and smashed them just after purchase. The one with the kid destroying the electronics store gets on my nerves. ---

I don’t think there’s any hidden meaning. Just that chocolate milk is great, and better shaken, so the protagonists go to silly and creative lengths (like mailing the milk bottle to themselves and subjecting it to abuse by the post office) to get it REALLY shaken up. ---

The one with the girl on the pogo stick, bouncing around, while those twin(?) lumps sit on the sofa and wait for the milk to be shaken. Irritating, but memorable. ---

As a guy who works in the ad field, I can say with relative certainty that those ads are all attitude with no substance. They all begin with a moderately intriguing set up and consistently fail to deliver a satisfying payoff. Great production, lousy concept. ---

Here they are, these vaguely threatening obese teenage lumps watching a just-on-the-verge-of-puberty girl bounce up and down on a pogo stick in some darkly fake wood paneled den. She’s wearing some sort of Catholic-ish school uniform, and theses guys are wearing identical footballtyp jerseys. Bang, Lo., bang, Li., bang, Ta., bang, goes the pogo stick, and no one has an expression in their eyes, the boys just watch…coldly calculating, waiting, watching, dispassionate like alcoholics drinking at a strip bar… Then a signal is given, the little girl stops, one of the large boys looms behind her, she looks away from them both, frozen, he takes something from her, sits down again. A signal is given, the little girl must start again and does. While they watch. I dunno, it gave me the willies. SOMEbody involved with that concept creation is hiding an need for counseling and treatment… [/paranoid hypersensitive reaction] ---

Ohh yeah. Let’s not forget the one where the kid with the 'fro is standing in front of the Quick-E-Mart or whatever and gargling milk and chocolate syrup for like 5 freaking minutes. MTV showed that during every commercial break for like a year, it seemed. ---
