And yet it somehow got made, which — what, means we’ll someday maybe see an ad for a movie about a guy trying to come up with a compelling pitch for the movie about the guy who tried to come up with a compelling pitch about selling the shoes?

I’ve been seeing ads for _Cocaine Bear_, and you’re surprised at a movie about Michael Jordan’s shoes?

Premature Electrification was the funniest ad of the night, though I wonder how many parents were struggling to explain it to kids staying up for the Super Bowl. Why isn’t the right howling about satanic ads destroying family values\*? If electric vehicles are implicitly evil, how can electric car ads featuring weak, beta, liberal, woke men not be a thousand times worse? Premature is right, though. It’s for a car that won’t be released until “late 2024.” Which means probably sometime in 2025, or maybe 2026.

\*Noticing what’s not there is sometimes more important than noticing what is. The wildly sexist ads of years past are long gone.

So you’re saying the ad was a bit… premature?

Most kids are unaware of what they don’t understand. I didn’t have to explain a thing to my two kids, but my wife and i found it amusing

> That was fun, and explains a couple of weird short ads I’d been seeing recently with no product (the ‘housekeepers’ and the sauce guy). Billie Jean King with a door assist, Jim Kelly appreciating the table drop, who was the guy in the parrot suit? I assume some NFL defensive back?

That was my favorite of the bunch. It continues the theme of NFL-sponsored adds that began with the NFL 100-Year Game (from SB:53) that featured current and past stars of the game, as well as other non-NFL celebrities. I didn’t recognize all of the actors, but here’s a short list:

- the two “housekeepers” were Sauce Gardner and Jalen Ramsey, defensive players
- the parrot suit player was [Davonte Adams](https://snworksceo.imgix.net/njs/e6c72fb0-98b5-405a-ac3c-4ca415a66ca8.sized-1000x1000.jpg?w=1000), a wide receiver (oddly acting as a defensive player)
- Billie Jean King, you named already, as well as
- Jim Kelly, former QB of the Buffalo Bills

Kelly’s line, “mafia style” refers to Bills’ fans being known as “The Bills Mafia”, and falling on flimsy card tables is their tailgate tradition.

I listen to a lot of bad movie podcasts and among a lot of them Tubi is basically a running joke of “We will buy your $10 budget horror movie and throw it in here”.

Ah yes, the old “Go Daddy” commercials.

I assumed it was something along the lines of _Ford Vs. Ferrari._ It’s an interesting idea. I suppose the Matt Damon character is supposed to be Peter Moore, the Nike designer who created the Jordan One; or perhaps an amalgamation of Moore and the famous designer Tinker Hatfield. Eh, I didn’t expect to enjoy _Ford vs. Ferrari_, so I’ll probably give this one a try, too.

I enjoyed the Affleck ad, but only because I get a kick out of him when he breaks out his native “Bahstan” accent. But none of this year’s crop was as good as the “Smaht Pahk” ad with Chris Evans, John Krasinski, and Rachel Dratch.

Actually, according to IMDB, Damon is playing [Sonny Vaccaro](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonny_Vaccaro), an actual person, who was a marketing executive for Nike, and has a long history in basketball promotions and running a camp for top high school basketball players.

IMDB also lists Matthew Maher as playing Peter Moore in the film.

It’s not a Tesla release, so I would expect them to hit the announced date.
