baracus, they consider dying in jihad a wonderful thing, that would not be defacing the koran for it to be destroyed, just as I am sure many were at the twin towers. The foot thing is hard to explain as it is real stupid, but they really have a fear of standing on religious stuff voluntarily, like where they had option not to, and in my idea they had the option not to. Totally different than being blown up in a successful jihad operation, that is not defacing to them, see? Sort of like how we revered the torn flag from the twin towers and sent it around to be seen, normally a defaced flag is immediately destroyed, see the difference now? Those korans on the flight are like that flag to us. Oh and I know I use the term moslem and if they do not like it, goodie. I don’t want to show respect. ---

Lamar, so the Fort Hood shooter guy you consider smart? Well there is the problem. I bet more than a few vets can tell you there are some dumb doctors in the VA, too. Did you see the movie of how he dressed up before the attack in some white robe sputtering nonsense? Not a smart person to me at all. I bet he would not step on a koran either. ---

Captain, many of the universities over there include teaching guess what, the koran. I also know many credentials can be faked, especially by terror organizations, and if the university is over there, it may well be part of the training for terror. Don’t just believe it, they can steal the identity of other students you know? Here and there. That is how they get such degrees. ---

Look, as a South Asian and as someone who can be reasonably mistaken for being a Muslim what with my funky fresh ethnic name and hirsute terroristy looks, I don’t step on books either. And I’m a Hindu, which is about as far away from Islam as you can get. My South Asian Christian friends also have the same hangup about stepping on books. Not just the Koran, our our particular religious texts, but books in general. It would have earned me a smack from my parents or relatives. Leaving aside all the cultural bigotry issues, you are simply not going to weed out…whoever you plan on weeding out that way. ---

No, they get the degrees legitimately. A lot of middle eastern universities aren’t that great, but they are legitimate schools. And university students are prime targets for extremist organizations. They recruit from middle class students, many of whom come from secular backgrounds and have “gotten religion” in college, and who, with the idealism of the young, are upset with the corruption and stratification of society. If you want to fight Islamic extremism, you need to understand the type of people who become Islamic extremists, and just dismissing them as stupid fools who dress funny doesn’t help anybody, and it doesn’t fight extremism. And, I have no doubt that any of the 9/11 terrorists, for instance, would have been perfectly willing to step on a copy of the Qu’ran or something like that. They knew they were going to heaven anyway, and all it would have done would be to further reinforce in their minds that America was an evil, Godless place that hates Muslims. The people who it would offend would be those Muslims who are not planning terrorism. ---
