[/quote] I was going to suggest that this might prevent planes from being blown up because the terrorists would content themselves to bombing airport security checkpoints. But then I realized that they wouldn’t bomb the checkpoints if there was a Qu’ran there. That’s it! :smack: If we let it be known that we were putting a copy of the Qu’ran in the cockpit of every airliner, then no Muslim would want to blow one up because he’d be desecrating the Holy Qu’ran. Bush said that atheists should not be considered patriots or American citizens. So Muslims are an even easier target for those who enjoy splitting America into handy groups to hate. ---

Thanks for catching that. I spent most of the time I was in Bosnia there, so it was probably not necessarily representative of the country as a whole. I also went to Mostar, which is more diverse. (But also more troubled…Bosniak and Croatian children don’t even go to school together and the city is totally segregated. Also, unlike Sarajevo, which is much more together, a lot of Mostar still looks like a war zone.) I loved it! It’s a really beautiful country, lots of impressive snow-capped mountains, rolling green hills and wide rivers. The food was excellent, the people were welcoming, everything was cheap…all in all, I give Bosnia two thumbs up. ---

They’re not an absolute majority, but they are a plurality, because the Serb population is split roughly 70/30 between Orthodox and Catholic. ---

I wasn’t aware of that, and a cursory google doesn’t turn much up on Serbian Catholics (other than that they exist). Can you provide a cite? ---

There hasn’t been a census since 1991, and things have shifted a bit since then. I got my information from some Bosnian emigres I’m acquainted with. Seems like a good idea to me. At my house, we have rather simple security procedure. First, you desecrate each of the major holy books, and some of the minor ones, in the fashion most befitting each religion. As you finish shredding and recycling the Torah and before you smear the cow’s blood on the Bhagavad Gītā, I ask that you kindly spit upon a collage that includes Mao, Jodie Foster, Obama, Wayne Rooney, Reagan, and Lenin. We feel like that covers most of the bases. We had a very difficult time figuring out what to do with the Diamond Sutra, but we ultimately settled on forcing you to sing the text to the tune of Lady Gaga’s Poker Face. We then ask that you assist in an abortion procedure and counsel a woman out of having an abortion, both of which can be done by video chat in the mud room. At that point we feel pretty safe in assuming we’ve screened out any fanatics. Or, I should say, felt pretty safe. It was the nihilists that eventually got us. Granted, their method of attack was a sort of dadaesque carrot-stabbing maneuver, and they weren’t exactly supermen, but it made us re-think our procedures. We’re considering adding an additional room in which our guests faith in humanity is restored by watching a combination of the Daily Show and films of people risking their lives to save strangers. ---
