I saw a documentary once about a zoologist who lived with a pack of wolves in the northwest, camping around them until he gained their trust and then being accepted by them. Later the wolves all had to be moved to a park in Canada for some reason that eludes me, and the experiment was called off. A couple of years later the zoologist went to visit the wolves in Canada, not knowing whether any would still recognize him. By this time the wolves had lost some of their pack, plus they had taken on new pack members from indigenous Canadian wolves (you can tell the difference because they don’t howl, they ‘hool’), plus there had been numerous pups born since the last time the zoologist had been among the wolves. He really didn’t know what to expect. Several of the wolves- the younger ones and the newbies- were standoffish, but then some of the older wolves he had known recognized him and came running up to him, licking him, nuzzling him, and once they did that all of the other wolves came up as well, licking and nuzzling like they’d always known him. Really heartwarming. For some reason this thread reminds me of that. Which is not saying I plan to lick Eve. Though I would consider some mutually consensual moderate nuzzling. ---

Listen, if the scones are getting stale I can make more! Baking is what I do for a living after all. How about some that have cranberry raisins and dried apricots, with a little orange marmalade in the dough? ---
