Back in the late 70s or so, the toilet paper at school (and in a lot of public toilets) in England was not soft at all. It was like thin greaseproof paper or tracing paper on a roll - crackly and dry, and with no absorbency or surface softness at all. It was necessary to crumple and unfold it repeatedly to make it usable.
It was printed with ‘council property - now wash your hands’

Yes. I love the half-sized sheets. I probably use the half-sized sheets twice as much as two-sheets-making-up-one-full-sized sheet.

I only used wipes when I was desert camping. Using wipes for washing hands was saving water for more critical needs like drinking water.

Do they still make colored TP? I don’t see it anymore. When I heard the dyes were bad, I stopped using them any way (like decades ago). I like my TP soft, but not too soft. Scented TP is stoopid.

Well, their name _is_ Scott. I remember an old TV ad for Scott TP that started with a “Grrrrrreat Scott” voiceover.

My maternal grandmother made crocheted versions of these. Like dozens of them. Thankfully, we lived half a continent away.

There is no such thing as a scent that everybody likes.

Just as there is no such thing as a food that everybody likes.

There’s not much to be done about the latter other than try to have choices available; but the scent issue is easily dealt with. At least, for toilet paper. Unscented versions of many other things are way too hard to come by.

I don’t go to town very often and live in a house with what at least ought to be extra storage space. I keep stocked up on a lot of things.

If you read the labels thoroughly, you can generally figure out how much toilet paper you’re getting. Two ply will go further than one ply.

I think the purpose was to discourage use of the toilets. Certainly I figured out pretty quickly to make sure I went at home before school, or hung on until home time.

On top of that, our rooms were bugged. I went to pick up my colleague one morning and she complained that the maid service had stolen her toilet paper. When she went back for lunch, the toilet paper was sitting on the bathroom counter.

Out of curiosity, I recently bought some Northern toilet paper with lilac and vanilla scented tubes. I love vanilla scent but it’s really not that noticeable so I can’t say that it elevated my experience.

Wash. Yes…wash your leaves(spinach, turnip, kale, etc.)
Grow your own. Easily done.

If you forage in the woods, well use your imagination what may have slept, peed or pooped on it. Again, wash.

There’s an old saying: “Don’t poop too close to the house”

If you wanna poop in the woods use leaves to your hearts content. I’ll not be doing it.

An American Heritage dictionary definition from a quick Google.

**quilt /kwĭlt/** (noun)

1. A coverlet or blanket made of two layers of fabric with a layer of cotton, wool, feathers, or down in between, all stitched firmly together, usually in a decorative design.
2. A thick protective cover similar to or suggestive of a quilt.
3. Anything that is **quilted** ; esp., a quilted bed cover, or a skirt worn by women; any cover or garment made by putting wool, cotton, etc., between two cloths and stitching them together; also, any outer bed cover.

So “quilted” seems like a pretty fancy schmancy term to me. The definition neglects to include bathroom tissue. But maybe the two layers are separated by a caramel centre (eventually).

No, it’s actually the two plies being run through a roller with a design on it, so that the paper is tacked together in spots that repeat the pattern. QN was my go-to TP (I still have 2 12-packs in the garage) until Covid, when all they had was Cottonelle. I have come to greatly prefer the latter.

I used to use Quilted Northern and sometimes the lilac scented.
Now I prefer Cottonelle because its better for panty lining.
People have thought me weird for going through one roll in 2 days but I wipe more than once, then use some for pantylining. Also its cheaper than buying tissues so it goes quickly.
I remember colored toilet paper but it seemed to stop up the toilet more than white did.

I wish 1 roll in 2 days was all we used.

Lemme count:

2 permanent boys. (Boys with large bathroom needs).

2 part-time girls, they prefer my bathroom other than the downstairs 1/2 bath. (Don’t blame them).

Pair of twin toddlers who like to waste paper. And sometimes Mom forgot the baby wipes. And they are just now potty training. (They are visiting frequently)

2 grown men. Not even gonna go there.

4 women of various ages and needs of toilet paper. In-comprehensible.

And … Son-of-a-wrek. Omg! that boy won’t do.

I suspect some days 5 rolls are used. Usually 3.

Hmm, you’re right. Maybe it messed up the septic system. They used to make colored Kleenex also, haven’t seen that for a while, though I buy mine at Costco. Cary Grant liked the colors so much that he decorated his bathroom to match one. Then Kleenex announced they were discontinuing it. He complained, and they sent him a railway car load of them.
