Thoughts on nomination of Mattis

I sure hope so. But his hard-on for Iran is extremely worrying.

Deceptive little shits don’t even want to have an honest discussion about it. Are there any Republican Congresscritters out there not willing to kiss Trump’s ass, or have they been told to be good Trumpeters…or else?

I imagine most Republican members of Congress think Mattis will be a great Secretary of Defense, so it’s not really an issue I’d expect them to ‘stand up to Trump’ on. Find something where they may disagree with him, possibly an infrastructure spending bill or something like that, and we can see if they’re willing to oppose him or not.

Civilian oversight of the Dept. of Defense is not a small thing to be brushed aside.

BTW, it appears that this issue (Mattis’ waiver) will still get a debate and a vote, with a filibuster option, sometime in January. From the Politico article:

Czarcasm, you said the Republicans were being “Deceptive little shits” and that they “don’t even want to have an honest discussion about it.” Do you still hold that view?

There is a difference between “exposing him” and “getting directly fucked by him”. I seriously doubt he got any votes from any of the people he actually fucked over, and a lot of people are about to get fucked over by him.

Mattis is smart enough to know that there aren’t that many good military solutions in any Iran situation and that a full scale war would be very messy, very bloody, and would cause huge instability for everyone. The bigger worry is whether Mike Flynn knows any of this outside of his paranoic conspiracy fever dreams about Iran. You’d think that even his and Trump’s love of Russia would make them a little more skeptical of it given their military cooperation with Iran.
