Our neighbors painted their bricks last summer, and everyone in the neighborhood thought they were about to put the house up for sale. They stayed. The house looks nice enough (it’s all white now) but I like my brick house because it looks like, well, brick.
In downtown Vancouver, WA they’re currently painting a brick skyscraper a combination of grey and black colors. I don’t think it’s much of an improvement but it’s apparently intended to make the building look a little more modern. The building was constructed in the 1980s I believe. Below you can see the painting in progress:
I believe it was Rembrandt who said “If painted brick looks bad, don’t blame the brick, blame the painter.”
I think that looks improved.
Here’s a manufacturer of specialty paint.
Browse to the huge brick house with before and after photos. That one was ill advised imo.

I think painted brick looks awful. I will add to that…painted rocks! Oh how I hate when people paint a big rock white.
There’s a house not far from me where they stripped off old brick, replaced the windows, put up new brick, and have now painted the new brick.
Yep, “flipper gray” with white windows and black trim.
I don’t especially like the way it looks. Plus
Two other reasons not to do it.
