# Thoughts on the TPP

What are everyones thoughts on the Trans-Pacific Partnership? What do you think are the positive effects that could come from the deal and what are the negatives? Overall, do you think it would be a good thing or a bad thing?

I know there isn’t too much information about it available to the public, but I still think there’s enough to go off of.

It’s absolutely vile, and the least any of us (who live in countries that may be a part of this) can do is contact our legislators and register our opposition. Again, that’s the least we can do. When people organize, there are no limits to what can be achieved.

Among other things, neoliberal deals like this allow corporations to override national sovereignty. If a country passes an environmental or labor law or anything like that, unhappy corporations can sue them for lost profits (and hopefully do away with the regulation), with dire consequences. Under the terms of CAFTA, this is happening to Central American countries whose governments (thanks to grass-roots organizing) have tried to protect their citizens from toxic metallic mining.
