In another thread someone cited Twitter/X posts that Biden ordered this. I want to know if we are actually going to hear those words from Trump himself, namely, that Biden ordered the shot.

I think Trump will get a short-term boost in support, but it will quickly go back down to pre-shooting levels.
He also had the political instinct to strike a campaign pose with fist in the air moments after being shot, with blood on the face and a US flag in the background. I expect to see a million T-shirts or whatnot emblazoned with that.

Well, he’s already claiming he was shot through the ear. We don’t know that yet at all.
He’s never had difficulty promulgating disinformation, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see Trump try to say Biden ordered the shot.

Same here. It’s one thing to fantasize about violence and to want other people to engage in it on your behalf but it’s another thing altogether when violence takes your earlobe off and kills someone sitting in your crowd. Trump might pretend he is tough but I think he’s going to be more affected by this than he could possibly realize. And since he’s not capable of admitting that he is in distress, he’ll end up taking years off of his own life by trying to just swallow the stress and trauma.

There is a photo of him bleeding but whether that is because he was shot in the ear or took a ding to the head when being tackled by Secret Service I have no idea. It’s not a lot of blood (and head wounds, even little ones, tend to bleed a lot). I bleed that much when I nick myself shaving.

I am willing to beleive this incident will amplify support among MAGAs and right-leaning voters, but the Democrats need to remind people (the reachable ones) that surviving an assassination attempt does not make one more qualified for the job of President. The need to keep hammering on the disaster that Trump I was.

Prediction markets are always a bit twitchy, but they’re pretty good at measuring sentiment at the least. Polymarket sees a +10% boost for Trump at the moment:

That’s 70% vs. 14% Biden. The balance is taken up by Harris and some others. Curiously, though, Harris lost more support than Biden. Perhaps the idea is that the discussion around cognitive problems are much less relevant now.

Earliest reports were that the cut was from glass flying from a teleprompter screen that was hit. That is also a credible explanation. We just don’t know what caused the bleeding at this point.
Not that it’s any less serious. Someone taking shots at a presidential candidate is as ugly as it gets.

Absolutely. It’s going to be the new “mug shot” they’ll use to energize the base and invent more inflammatory “democrats evil” rhetoric.

I think this is more likely to hurt Trump’s campaign than help it. Early reports are that the shooter had an AR-15 - if Trump nearly got killed by the same gun that he’s repeatedly bragged about keeping legal, it blows a massive hole in his platform, for one.
For two, he’s probably deaf in that ear now and there’s going to be legitimate concern about brain damage.
For three, as I mentioned above, this will vindicate the paranoia about assassins he’s had his whole life and there’s a good chance he spends the rest of the year hiding at Mar-a-Lago instead of campaigning. He might even be too spooked to come out for golf.

IIRC Reagan was walking to the car which was waiting with an open door and SS was standing next to him. It didn’t take much to shove him through the door. It takes more time to rush the stage in Trump’s case.

I may change my tune as things settle, but at the moment I feel like Trump won the election because of this. And it’s going to embolden him to become a dictator.
