In [this GQ thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=210962), the OP miswrote “Chess” as “Chest”, and then asked a Mod to change the title. The thread title is now correct, but the OP title still has the typo. I was under the impression that the thread title was linked to the OP title, so that one could not start a thread titled X but whose OP was titled Y, where X != Y. Does this correlation between thread title and OP title only hold when a thread is started, but no longer holds when a Mod jumps in and corrects typos in either of the two titles?

No, the two are not directly tied. Editing the thread title does not change the first post title, you have to do both acts to completely fix it. Mods on my Board forget this from time to time, as do I myself.

I’ve fixed it, in this thread, but it is a characteristic of the system, that the two are “tied” at the time of OP, but not thereafter.
