Darn - it seemed to work in preview.

Testing an auto-parsing URL with quotes in it:

[http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?q=“Alpha+Eridani”](http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?q=%22Alpha+Eridani%22)

Testing same link with url tag:

[Search for me!](http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?q=%22Alpha+Eridani%22)

Testing same link with escape sequences for quotes:

[http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?q="Alpha+Eridani"](http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?q=%22Alpha+Eridani%22)
