The was a movie called “Countdown to Looking Glass”. Anyone else remember it? And, if you take a nuclear bombing instead of a nuclear war, the scariest movie of all is “Fail Safe” (IMHO of course). The sound of the scream of the phone gave me nightmares for a long time.
