# Three Dozen Probably Dead: Human Smuggling Boat Capsizes off Florida

Sad. Since it happened Saturday and no one was wearing a life jacket, very doubtful more than a very few survived.

While you see this happening a lot in the Mediterranean, anyone remember the last time in the U.S. with such a large loss of life?

If he was one of the smugglers why would he call attention to it?

According to the article it was the person who rescued the survivor who called it in, not the survivor him/herself. So at this stage he/she could still be either.

Note the information about 39 on the boat, etc. This could only have come from the person rescued. If the person rescued were a human smuggler he would probably simply have said “I was out here by myself and the boat overturned in the bad weather”. But perhaps you are right and he has a conscience.
