If by “getting a thumb drive wet”, you mean “boiling a thumb drive for hours in a jacuzzi”, then yes, it does render the device inoperable.

ETA: If you don’t believe me, you can soak a thumb drive in a pot of hot water for hours and find out what happens…

Or you could just shove your thumb drive up your ass while you aren’t using it.

Yeah, but you really shouldn’t do that with your head like that, you know. Take it out once in a while and give it some air, even if you’re not going to use it.
Does getting a thumb drive wet actually damage it? I thought they were solid-state and therefore water-resistant (as long as they’re not plugged in).
I’ve put a couple through the wash by accident and they’ve still worked just fine afterwards.

Oh, look! It’s you again! Why, I declare, **Q.E.D**., I’m starting to think you have a crush on me…what with that way you keep responding to my posts and talking about all that homoeroticism! [bats eyes fetchingly] If only you’d let me know _before_ I got married!
There’s a newfangled invention out there that you may find helpful. It’s called [string](http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchResults?searchOption=products&hvarSearchString=twine&storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&CMID=TOP_SEARCH_GO&x=11&y=2). It’s sold under a variety of names, including cord and twine; and it can be had in a variety of materials and colors. As you can see, it’s relatively inexpensive; so someone as deucedly clever as yourself ought to be able to make a lifetime’s supply of lanyards from just a couple dollar’s worth. Why, I bet someone with your mad skillz could probably even master a couple basic braids that would be artistic triumphs as well as utilitarian.

Or you could just shove your thumb drive up your ass while you aren’t using it.
