> This caught my eye. Surely **ed** knows that we all know that proboards is the scum/mason board, right? So why reference it in the middle of a game Day? Is he scum, fishing for masons or trying to nudge an MIA scumbuddy who didn’t post last Night? Or is this just random game chatter? When I first saw this, I thought it was most likely that he was himself a mason, trying to drop a breadcrumb for his co-mason on how to get to proboards during the Day, but then he claimed Tygra so that’s out.

or is it in direct response to another player (wasn’t it you?) saying that they are blocked from playing at work?

goodness, are you really that dense?

If you look, my post quoted this one:

So me mentioning that I can’t access proboards from work is just so way out there. The fact that my work filter CIPAfilter blocks it automatically means I must be Scum.

No, you can’t get to proboards through idlmafia, but you can access that 1 probvaord site through idlemafia.

So, I can actually comment on idle’s site, but not access the rest of proboards.

try it [idlemafia.com](http://idlemafia.com) it works.

I find it scummy because it shows that (a) accessing proboards is on his mind and (b) it could be a breadcrumb to either give a heads-up to a fellow scumbuddy that they can get there via an alternate route or to fish for masons volunteering that it’s not blocked for them (which would be admittedly pretty stupid). It’s not strong evidence, obviously, but it just seemed like an odd thing for a vanilla Townsperson to toss out there.

The claim also struck me as oddly phrased and almost eagerly presented. If he is in fact Vanilla, why say it obliquely: “I have no special import to the game”? For that matter, why claim at all? Sure, technically you’re the vote leader but it’s a three way tie with three votes each and there’s a fair amount of time left – someone else could easily end up getting lynched, and you’ve now helped the scum by shrinking the pool for the powers and masons.

I’ll also point out that his statement about being the lynch leader was false: the rules say that ties will be resolved randomly, not based on the last person to reach that vote count.

:snipped:

What? Jimmy thinks Pleo is playing anti-town. I might agree, but I don’t see his scum motivation for it and don’t think it’s a good way to tell if Pleo is scum(having played with him before). Jimmy just latched on to an easy vote, and that is scummy.

Oh, and how nice that you are willing to be wrong if that turns out to be the case. Way to cover yourself all around.

No, it’s an accurate statement: he claimed to be “the lynch leader” based on a 3-3-3 vote count. An understandable mistake, sure, but still a false statement.

And while I’ve got you here – could you explain your vote on **Jimmy** in a bit more detail? All you said was that you didn’t like his stated reasons for voting **Pleonast** , despite agreeing with some of the scummy arguments against him. Is that the entire basis of your case, or is there more you haven’t had a chance to mention?

OK, several points

1. I mentioned it because you mentioned being blocked from sites! Hardly an out of the blue statement. It was conversation.
2. If I were blocked from a Scum board, I would have told people I was blocked from the Scum board. Check any games where I was Scum and proboards was used for the Scum boards. Heck, check Monty Python which i helped mod and you’ll see me mention it there as well.
3. As a player with no power, I have no special importance.
4. I was tied for the lead. Are you actually implying that I would intentionally make a false claim of being tied for the lead simply so that I could fake claim? really? No, i mean, really? You honestly believe that?

I’m also fairly certain that Normal discerned the possible motivation for my unusal play was an atempt to get myself Night Killed. It wouldn’t be the first time I did things as Vanilla in an attempt to get myself Night Killed. it also wouldn’t be the first time that in doing so, I put myself in danger of being lynched.

1. I agree that’s one possibility.

2. :dubious:

3. I’m not saying your statement was false, I’m saying it was obliquely phrased. Being coy is not pro-Town, IMO. Scum are coy like that to leave wiggle room for a weak power claim later on. Town have no reason to be coy.

4. Yes, you were tied for the lead. However, you called yourself the lynch leader as justification to eagerly claim Vanilla Town. I’m not saying you lied about being in a three-way tie for the lead (as you’re twisting my words to imply), I’m saying your statement was false.

As I mentioned earlier, even if it were true and you were the lynch leader, aka in line for the noose, (a) a three-way tie 24 hours before the end of Day hardly justifies a claim and (b) if you don’t get lynched, your claim harms Town. Add in the fact that it wasn’t true and you’re starting to smell pretty scummy, IMO.

While **ed** has made a so-far uncountered claim, with so few players chiming in, I don’t get a truthy feel from it. Plus the lack of reasonable votes, I’m going to stick with my vote.

Is that the entire basis of your case, or is there more you haven’t had a chance to mention?

I really can’t. I’ve explained it as best I can. Someone (Mahaloth?) added that it looked like Jimmy might have seen suspicion gathering against Pleonast (your vote, my comments) and decided to strike while the iron was hot, which seems plausible to me.

He has had several days to back up his vote with stuff that is not mechanistic if he wanted to and hasn’t done so. It remains just that the multi-votes must be scummy. Unless they aren’t, in which case, I suppose, they are merely anti-town.

I agree(d) with two arguments against Pleo that Jimmy never made. Going over Pleo’s posts from day one this afternoon I’m less bothered by the “look how townie I am” stuff; I’m increasingly thinking that might just be Pleo being his usual smug self. Some posts, like this bit about Zeriel:

> [@](#):
>
> vote Zeriel
>
> 1. For jumping on a player who suggested an idea. Scum prefer the town talk less. Discouraging players from stating their ideas prevents the town from effectively planning.
> 2. For not explaining why the idea itself is blatantly scummy. All the players commenting on Tom’s suggestion find some merit to it, but not enough to justify the risk.
> 3. For admitting to avoiding the thread. Scum don’t like to stick their necks out. An easy way to accomplish that is waiting until someone else has done so and then attack them.
> 4. For complaining that I’m not giving any tells. Okay, I’m not seeing much of a scum motivation for this, except for possibly trying to get players to play stupidly.
> 5. For attacking my play style rather than addressing the points I’m voting them for. Scum don’t want to discuss themselves or their actions, they want to turn the attention on other players.

look rather good by day one standards. I think he’s right about all but #4 (I think he missed Zeriel’s point on that one, and rather aggressively so, at that).

And then there’s the stuff from first thing this morning, which brings it right back down to somewhere around neutral. But not enough for me to vote for him.

I’m more comfortable with the vote on Jimmy now than when I made it.

I don’t really like the case on Ed. Wild paranoid theory aside that I’m not going to state out loud, I think his behavior fits closer to Ed-as-town than I’ve ever seen him as scum.

I really do intend to drop this, but _easy vote_? Not really a perfectly fair interpretation of what this was. I’ve seen enough games to know what’s going to be a kicking and screaming match and what isn’t, even if I did step in it in terms of how many people I thought would share my perspective. I’ve also played enough to know how to lie low if I’m scheming on something – if nothing else, give me credit enough to assume that I would know as scum that it’s relatively easy to hide in the shadows early on. It’s ridiculous to say that I’ve “latched onto” anything for the sake of breezing through the day (to say nothing of the fact that the accusation is coming from somebody who’s devoted two lines at most to his vote explanations). **Normal Phase** even gave me a veritable blueprint for how to vote for **Pleonast** if I wanted to do so without making waves. That wasn’t my intention, and that I meant what I said. (And for the millionth time as long as I’m here, my primary problem isn’t that it’s a distraction. Now I swear to god, I won’t talk about it anymore. I have read what everyone else has said and I understand your points of view. I disagree but will allow that at this point, having the conversation in-game isn’t helping anything.)

* * *

On to the **ed** thing. I think he’s a better candidate than myself, obviously, but I’m confused about what he’s telling us he was attempting. I would appreciate it if **ed** would just, in a post, explain what his thinking was today and what he thought was going to happen. You thought there wasn’t much going on and you didn’t like it, so you thought you’d pretend you have a power so you’d get night killed, instead of, like, starting a conversation about something? And then you admitted it well before you were anything like a sure thing for a lynch? What did that achieve? I don’t think that the points raised by **Giraffe** other than the early claim are suggestive, and I really have a hard time imagining that a scum **ed** would have any motivation to disrupt a quiet day in which the current vote leader (yr humble narrator) was a townie. Rewind to post 184, looking at the state of play at the time at which **ed** made that post, why would he stick his neck out so obviously, so early in the game?

**Pleonast** is right that such flimsy voting rationales shouldn’t be overlooked, but I can’t square **ed** ’s weirdness with somebody who is at all concerned with getting lynched. And you’d think the scum would be. Do the **ed** voters see a scum motivation there that I can’t?

**Tom** , what did the crossed-out reference to the doc mean? Is that from another game and something to do with using a plural vs. singular, or something? I don’t get it.

I’ve been reading along faithfully, just haven’t had a good chance to post. But, I’m here now! And I’ve got some questions.

> [@Giraffe](#):
>
> All in all, I have to say I’m now finding **ed** about as scummy as **Pleonast**. My case on **Pleonast** rests mostly on his anti-Town multivote (which he apparently does consistently, so it’s not itself a scum tell) and his Day one cheerleading, which is suspicious but not necessarily a strong scum tell.

If I’m reading you correctly, you’ve got about half of a scum tell on Pleonast, and you find Special Ed “about” as scummy. You were voting for Pleo, but then you switch to Ed. Since you don’t sound particularly convinced of your own case, is there somebody else you’d rather be voting for? You don’t sound particularly convinced or enthused about your own cases.

> [@Giraffe](#):
>
> As I mentioned earlier, even if it were true and you were the lynch leader, aka in line for the noose, (a) a three-way tie 24 hours before the end of Day hardly justifies a claim and (b) if you don’t get lynched, your claim harms Town. Add in the fact that it wasn’t true and you’re starting to smell pretty scummy, IMO.

I don’t 100% understand this. I kind of see where you’re coming from when you say he’s not really lynch leader. I’d say he was close enough, since he was tied, but that’s just semantics. What confuses me is your comment that his claim “harms town.” Presuming he’s a town player, he needs to do everything in his power to save himself if he’s on the chopping block, because lynching town players is a losing strategy. With only 24 hours left to go, and a relatively anemic discussion group, I can understand his timing. Plus, assuming he’s telling the truth, he’s gotten us 1/12th closer to lynching scum. We can now reevaluate our lynch, and we have plenty of time to discuss our next target. Not seeing the issue here.

(I assume you’ll respond and say something like “his claim reduces the hiding pool for our powers.” I say so what? I’ll trade a increased chance of hitting powers for a better-aimed lynch. I personally don’t consider this to be “harming town.”)

\*\*\* Assuming you believe his claim. You’re free to believe or not believe it as you see fit.

Overall, I’m finding little things about Giraffe pegging me throughout the game. Mahaloth has as well, as I’ve mentioned before.

For now, **Vote Giraffe.**

I would also consider Mahaloth an acceptable lynch target.
That being said, I do want to address the Jimmy Situation. Of the three voting for him, I think Mahaloth is scum and I have no read whatsoever on Inner Stickler (Previously Sir T Cups). Normal Phase I’m leaning slightly town on, because despite our back and forth, I think Normal has played a largely pro-town game thus far. Overall, I’m leaning town on Jimmy too - I agree with a lot of what he’s said, even if I don’t agree with his Pleo vote. Therefore, I find Jimmy a poor lynch candidate and am looking askance at Mahaloth and Inner.

The Ed lynch I feel better about. I agree that his voting record has been weak, with two quick votes without a lot of justification. I have a slight town read on Pleo and Hirka (Previously Zeriel, who earned that town feel), so I feel better about the voters there, too. Giraffe is the only one I’m strongly questioning there, and I’m following that up with a vote.

I know my Giraffe vote won’t likely have an effect on the lynch, so I’d like to give my tacit approval to the Ed lynch. I don’t feel strongly enough to add my vote to the pile there, but I approve of it more than I do the other lynch candidates (excluding Mahaloth, of course!). I feel better about Jimmy than Ed, so if Jimmy becomes tied with Ed again, I’ll change my vote over to put Ed back in the lead.

Late edit - I wasn’t actually in the lead yet when **ed** started being weird, so scratch that bit. Also the terrible grammar, if you don’t mind.

>

1. So, it’s possible that my mentioning being blocked by proboards was in response to you mentioning being blocked here, but you hold to the fact that it’s more likely I was covertly conveying to my Scum buddies that I couldn’t reach them on the Scum board from work. At a time (9:39PM) when I could actually have reached them on the Scum boards to tell them so.

2. Yes, you’ll find that I have mentioned it on Scum boards that I cannot access them from work. Why on Earth I would choose this game to relay that information in the game thread goes unexplained. It becomes especially far-fetched when coupled with the fact that it was in response to you being talked about being blocked.

3. So, you contend that I might later claim a power, despite the fact that I’ve claimed a role that is publicly identified as being Vanilla. So, later, I’ll have to say that I lied? Not just about being of no import, but also of not being Tygra, who is of no special import.

4. I was tied for the lead. I wasn’t tied for second. I was tied for the lead. There was a distinct possibility that I could be lynched. So I claimed. it’s what I do.

5. 24 hours to go, and I could conceivably be lynched even if I gained no more votes. Seemed like the time to claim to me. Maybe you wouldn’t have and would have just risked it.
