I have never heard of being pulled over for that if you didn’t run a red light. Other than the insurance thing, did he write you a ticket?

This is all especially frustrating because the plastic card itself is completely inferior to the digital copy of the license information that the cop can (and probably did) pull up on their squad car laptop.
The cop already knows everything about your license, registration, and insurance before he even gets out of his car. He just wants to see what you are going to say.
Well they know that for whoever the car is registered to. But yes.
Good point. No one drives my car except me so it never occurred to me to consider that.
Plus paying court costs, which could be another hundred or so.
From my experience, traffic court was just the fine and no court costs. That was two cases about 20+ years ago so maybe things have changed.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve had a ticket, and I’m sure that states and localities differ, but every ticket I’ve had to pay also had various surcharges that were either close to, or exceeded, the actual fine.
