Not surprising. This is after all reality TV and Trump has to fire people regularly in a bid to boost the all-important ratings. The show may well be canceled in a couple of years if the figures don’t rise.

It really wouldn’t surprise me if this had some part in the timing. Trump - and the GOP establishment - are worried enough about the optics of PA-18. I could see where a distraction to push a potential embarrassment off the front page could be useful. Say what you want about Trump but no one can deny he’s media savvy.

Sure, it pushes PA-18 off the front page, but this almost in Saturday Night Massacre territory: firing your Secretary of State right after he’s said something critical about Russia that would be boilerplate in any other Administration.
Seriously, there are only two interpretations of this, and both are awful:

I don’t think it’s particularly savvy to make your administration look confused on the day of an election you’ve invested some of your reputation in. Undecided or swing voters probably look down on that kind of thing.

Yeah, I could see the new CIA going after Assange. It seems like having Assange no longer exist in the world could be handy for many. Obviously, he’s useful to Russia, but Trump is worth even more to them.
Not surprising for this meglomaniac. If you don’t fall in step he just eliminates you. He’s been pushing and encouraging that agenda all along. Democratic politicians? Vote them all out and replace with Republicans. Republican politicians who don’t follow his lead? Get rid of them and replace with those that kiss his ass. Media that doesn’t run like a state ran propoganda machine? Call them “fake” and encourage ways to have them banned and eliminated.
Now, if he could just find a way to get rid of half the citizens of this country who don’t pledge their dying allegiance to him.
What about all those FEMA camps that are sitting idle?
