aka a thinly veiled attempt to find some new music…

Currently the following are in heavy play wherever I go (home, work and the road)
Thee More Shallows - More Deep Cuts…one of the best unknown albums of 2005
Sigur Ros - Takk
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary
Muse - Origin of symmetry
Royksopp - The Understanding

What’s playing on your cd-player/mp3/PSP/etc/etc???

The latest new albums I’m listening to are _[Eye to the Telescope](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0006FMBWY/qid=1128525984/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-6459860-3225425?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)_ by KT Tunstall and _[Hours](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009I7NP8/qid=1128526012/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/103-6459860-3225425?v=glance&s=music)_ by Funeral for a Friend.

Recently, though, I’ve been in the mood for comfort music and have been listening to a lot of the iTunes radio station Flashback Alternatives (“classic 80s alternative music”). 🙂

Recently we’ve been listening to:
The new **Goldie Lookin’ Chain** album _"Safe as F_\*_k"_
[http://www.playlouder.com/review/+safe-as-fuck/](http://www.playlouder.com/review/+safe-as-fuck/)

The new **Super Furry Animals** album _“Love Kraft”_

My husband and I went to see **SFA** live last week (a sort of post-honeymoon treat). They are undoubtedly one of the best live acts about at the moment, and, as always their set was superb. If you haven’t heard any of their stuff and the idea of psychedelic rock fused with electronic dance, made by a bunch of Welsh stoners with impeccable quality control appeals, I highly recommend them.

Also:
**Damien Rice** - _B Sides_
**Gorillaz** -_Demon Days_
**Imogen Heap** - _Speak For Yourself_
**Leadbelly** - _Midnight Special_
**The Magic Numbers** -_The Magic Numbers_

Just discovered In an Aeroplane Over the Sea by **Neutral Milk Hotel**. It is great, front-to-back; a solid, album.

Also just stumbled upon a live video of _Astronomy Domine_ (1967 **Pink Floyd** with Syd Barrett). Now I’m into early Pink Floyd again! 😃

Also intend on getting the new **Sigur Ros** album. Hope it’s good!

I’ve been playing the newest Opeth cd in my car a lot since I got it a few weeks ago. Truly great stuff, although it’s an acquired taste.

“In an Aeroplane over the Sea” is IMHO one of the greatest albums ever. I was hesitant about the new Sigur Ros (it being hailed as accessible and such - ewww) but I have to say I like the fact that the songs have become more ‘rocking’

If you like Neutral Milk Hotel (stupidest band name ever) you may like the Decemberists. Some people call them derivative of NMH, I call them vastly superior in every way.

Right now I have John Vanderslice’s Cellar Door in the cd player.

It’s a great albulm. A lot of the songs conjure up a mental movie they are so story driven and descriptive.

An oscillating fan blowing in my office.

The tormented screams of the damned, because the heat in the institution got turned on, yet the sudden rise in outside temperatures to 87 degrees with 80% humidity didn’t make them turn the heat off.

The noise from the big bang.

I have been listening to my collection of 78 RPM records. Last week, I acquired a radio station turntable - a three-speed Technics SP-10 Mk II, with an SME tonearm. I put a Stanton 500AL cartridge in it, and ordered a 78 stylus on the net. And since Monday evening, I have been recording my 78s onto the computer properly, with the right equipment, for the first time, ever! It has always been among my dreams to own an awesome turntable for this purpose, and now I do!

There are records going back to 1908, up through the late 1950s. Some of them are the songs I’ve known the longest, others I haven’t played yet, as I bought them and haven’t had a machine to play them until now. I will be removing all the clicks and thumps from these recordings and making CDs of the results.

I guess this is the ceremonial last play for these records. After this, they will never need to be played again. But they’ll be preserved for all time, with all the noises removed.

Seconded! I haven’t had a turntable in years, but I still have a bunch of vinyl _just in case_ I can ever buy a nice one. 🙂

I’ve just watched Dave Matthews’ Live Central Park/Don’t Drink the Water performance, on big-screen with surround sound, up loud. I’m completely breathless, and not just from dancing insanely all over the room. That band is the ultimate!

I’ve just realized that I can no longer be held responsible for my actions when under the influence of that music. I’m going to have to dole out that particular cut to myself verrrry carefully.

The Bloodhound gang, a surprisingly funny, surprisingly prolific band. Current single: Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo.

You may remember the following lyric from their previous album (Hooray for boobies):

Love: the kind you clean up with a mop-and-buck-et.

Lest you think I’m completely unsavable, I’m also listening to Thomas Dolby: Forty - Live Limited Edition and 20 years of They Might Be Giants.

And just to toot my own horn a little, if you’re looking for something to listen to, you should check out the [Essential Music Library Project](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=335665). It’s still just getting started, so there’s a lot of ground left to cover. That link’ll take you to the thread I used to plan the project and now use for announcements–see the bottom for the latest links.
