Going by Time’s _original_ criterion for Person of the Year – the person who “for better or for worse … has done the most to influence the events of the year” – there is some sense in choosing “Architects of AI” for 2025, is there not? As we know, it hasn’t always been a celebration of said person/persons. Hitler and the Ayatollah Khomeini have also been so recognized. ---

While that’s the name of the award, in practice it can go to a person, group of people, object, or even just an idea. They could have even given it to “AI” itself as a concept. It should probably be called “Most Impactful Thing of the Year” but they continue to use the terminology they use. After all, in 1982 the winner was “The Computer”, in 1988 it was “The Endangered Earth”, and in 2022 while they did name Zelenskyy, he shared the award with “The Spirit of Ukraine”. So it can be pretty abstract. ---

This is hardly the first time that the “Person of the Year” was not in fact a single individual person. Looking through the list, this is pretty reminiscent of ‘The Computer’, 1982’s entry. ETA: Since I was beaten to it, I’ll just share a couple of other examples; “The Protester” (2011), “The American Soldier” (2003), and “You” (2006). ---

It’s unkown (or disputed) who took the original picture this (lower one) is based on. Are we supposed to be seeing Central Park in the background like in the original? I’d also point out that the original photo _ **centered** _ everyone.
