By the way, I thought of him as a flamingo’ed frat boy, but heard some of his more thoughtful stuff and changed my mind.

Today, I’m remembering how he spoke of hearing that John Wayne died:

_Now on the day that John Wayne died_  
_I found myself on the continental divide_  
_Tell me where do I go from here?_  
_Think I’ll ride into Leadville and have a few beers._  
_I think of “Red River” or “Liberty Valance”,_  
_Can’t believe the old man’s gone…_

_But now he’s incommunicado_  
_Leavin’ such a hole in a world that believed_  
_That a life with such bravado_  
_Was takin’ the right way home…_
