Time to restring my guitar -- what can you tell me?

Don’t know what to say - it is pretty much understood in the music circles I run in (a few pros and semi-pros) that you don’t change bass strings - unless you play a ton of slap/funk bass and have more than 4 strings on your bass…

You might find a well-trafficked bass players’ forum and see what they have to say…

Well you’re right the majority of what I play is very slap-heavy so that is the reason they wear out.

Well, that and the fact that most slap-heavy playing styles tend to emphasize the brighter, higher overtones and harmonics that are the first thing to go with well-worn strings. So you’d naturally want to change them more frequently than those of us who’re all about the bottom (playing with the mids and highs rolled almost all the way off and the lows up as far as they’ll go). Different styles, different sounds. I’m not a fan of a lot of bite in my bass sound, partly as a matter of style and partly because I’m such a crappy player that anything that causes the mids and highs to be more prominent also emphasizes all the string noise and other crap my talentless fingers produce.
