I suspect that Bob will not see the devastation, because he was the cause of it.

Ahh, yeeess, my favorite twilight zone episode - go back in time to stop the school fire, but end up being the cause (dylight savings time issues, heh)… Unless you know me better than I think – I have been, on multiple occasions, the accidental cause of numerous barely non-lethal explosions.
