And all the First Ones who left the galaxy long ago. They left to make room for us. The only First Ones remaining are the dregs…the crazy ones who are to scared to leave. They’re like a grown man who hangs out at the playground harassing the little kids who should be able to just enjoy the playground.
Except for maybe Lorien*, we’ve never seen a sane First One.
b5fan, there was no “original timeline”. Or rather, there was only the original timeline. In the original timeline, Valen (who was Sinclair) guided the development of the Mimbari, who eventually arranged for Sinclair to get the Triluminary that enabled the time travel and transformation.
The notion of an “original timeline” distinct from a “revised timeline” is just lazy storytelling by writers who aren’t actually writing time travel stories. How can one timeline be “original”? It was there first? What does that even mean, for a timeline?

Hi Chronos,
I see time as a linear path. Time travel allows the possibility of divergent paths or outcomes. The only purpose of the time machine is to alter the current sad state of affairs where moving forward there is slim chance of success. Now Chronos, suppose that you control everything and you wish to beat the Shadows. You are losing the war. Now what would you do? You devise a plan that is a long time in planning and execution.
You want to take Sinclair and send him back in time to become Valen. Unfortunately, before you send him back, the events that shaped his life, such as earth-minbari war etc. could not have occurred because there was no Valen yet. When i first viewed B5, i thought about the time travel sequence just as you do. However, if you think about it from a planning standpoint where you have to devise the plan of sending someone back to alter the timeline, you see that the notion of original and divergent timelines as i laid out in my original post is probable.
