I liked some of the early episodes, and it had some great dialogue (Flynn’s frustrated exchanges with John Wilkes Booth was one of my favorite TV moments of the year). But stories built around a big grand conspiracy leave me ice cold. Particularly annoying in the Watergate episode…what, Richard effin’ Nixon isn’t shady enough on his own? I really think this would’ve worked better as a Mr. Peabody-style wacky time-hopping adventure of the week. If you can’t get a decent story about modern-day Americans being thrust into the Seven Years War or the space race without a bunch of conspiracy jiggabaheezah, you deserve to get canned.
And now it’s been un-canceled.

I guess I am clued out. What other time travel shows were in this burst?
Frequency, Time After Time and Making History are the other new time travel themed shows, all of which were cancelled.
Eta: I now see some mentioned in the un-cancelled link. Frequency, Time After Time and Making History. None of which I’ve seen and frankly never heard of the last two. But thanks Dewey.
Yay! Like E-DUB, I thought it had done okay ratings-wise, so I was surprised to learn after the season finale that its renewal was on shaky ground. I’m glad to see that it’s getting a second season after all.
That’s the bunny. And these are in the midst of existing time travel shows like Legends of Tomorrow, 12 Monkeys, Doctor Who, and arguably The Flash. It’s been quite the trend, for some reason, but probably won’t continue into the next couple of years, even after this last minute reprieve.
I am happy, though. It was a well made show, with nice ambiguity in the bad guys, and real consequences to their shenanigans.
“Travelers” not being included on these lists, and it should be. (Not cancelled list, time travel shows list.)
I made a thread for “Travelers” but it didn’t take off. I love “Travelers” and I am very excited for the next season. Of all the new time travel shows the past season it was my favorite. “Timeless” was also good. “Time after Time” had an ok premise but my god the writing was bad (in my view).
I’m glad “Timeless” is back. I’ll also join a “Travelers” thread, if you want to try again. We’ve just finished the first season.
