# timezone settings

My user profile correctly shows my timezone as GMT+10hrs, yet the time reported on my user control panel is 1 hr ahead of what it should be.
Doesn’t bother me – just for your info. :rolleyes:

I seem to remember the answer from when this question was last asked - I think it has to do with GMT not taking daylight savings time into account.
Does Australia use DLS?

Yes, we do. In **summer**.
It’s now winter here in the southern hemisphere. My timezone is currently GMT+10hrs, which is what’s set in my user profile.
(During daylight time (end Oct to end Mar) it’s GMT+11hrs.)

Dunno about the rest of you guys, but this furriner likes to leave the SDMB on Chicago time. It’s useful for predicting when the board is going to be slow, and also it’s just nice to know what time of day it is for the American Dopers (give or take an hour or so).

My timezone _should_ be GMT + 12 hours (NZST for Auckland). But the timeclocks around here don’t work out that way. Eh, who cares? _shrug_
Perhaps, **DVD** , try the “GMT + 9 hours” setting. I’m at GMT + 11 hours – you sound like you’re in the same timezone as eastern Australia.
