I liked it. It’s a nice riff on the Oz theme. It’s stupid in parts, but as has been pointed out, the original wasn’t exactly Shakespeare. Kinda fun overall. The dark look of it had me flashing on the Todd MacFarlane’s “Twisted Land of Oz” models/dolls/action figures/whatever. I’ll keep following it, for what it’s worth, which may not be much.
Oh, now that I’ve seen the last 20 minutes I see it’s supposed to be funny! Now that I know this I like it much better!
It is supposed to be funny, right? You know what, I don’t care whether it is or it isn’t, nothing beats what my husband just called ‘titty monkeys!’
I’ll probably not make it to the end of this one either. I am old and cannot stay awake that long.
Monday night, 10:00.
Those are certainly impressive…monkeys.
It’s official. Zooey is the worst actress in the world*. Even worse than whoever that chick is who plays Ming’s daughter on Flash Gordon.
What could have been either a hoot of a character or a darkly serious heroine is instead a wooden hoot who acts as if she’s on heroin. She was killing me with her monotone delivery and sluggish reactions.
I missed the last 45 minutes this time-- saw poor Zipperhead get his brains sucked. Does anyone know when the re-broadcast is coming on?
*This can’t be true because I loved her on Weeds. Then again a sluggish, drugged out delivery was exactly what her insane Weeds character needed.
ANYTHING is better than that.
I checked out soon after the evil sister changed clothes.
Mainly couldn’t stand the commercials.
So what flew out of her navel?
I liked Zooey in Big Trouble were her deadpan monotone was very funny and worked well IMO. It seems to be a bit too flat for this role but I will probably see it through as I have it DVR’d
I thought she was adorable in Elf. But I haven’t seen her in anything else.
I enjoyed the second part more than the first. It seemed more imaginitive somehow. Of course, you can see how it’s gonna end up, but it’s a pleasant journey nonetheless.
Those “papays” are kind of a waste of time, though, aren’t they? And about as realistic as the original “Mario.”
Oh and what about Uncle Remus as Toto the tutor? I swear, if the lone black guy turns out to be a traitor, I’m calling Al Sharpton.
He’s working for the Bad Guys, but I predict he will do a “Bonanza Good Bad Guy” turnaround at the end. Of course, the BGBG maneuver always requires the death of the GBG.
I was totally psyched up for this, and ended up falling asleep halfway through the first episode. I rewatched the next night and fell asleep halfway through the second episode. :smack:
NajaHusband is really digging it, but I completely lost interest the minute I realized it wasn’t a re-telling of Oz, but a complete sci-fi reworking. I kinda couldn’t keep track of what was going on, and if I had to give a synopsis right at this moment couldn’t actually tell you what happened. I also thought the stupid spider things (papays? WTF, stupid name, too) were the dumbest CGI monsters ever created.
I was really disappointed, but will keep watching in large part because NajaHub will have it on. Maybe the third time around I’ll be able to pay attention.
Ah good-- saw the ending to last night. I don’t think Toto is a traitor. Now I’m gonna watch to see if it doesn’t end exactly how I think it will.
When will they rebroadcast the final show? Because I will fall asleep before it ends to night.
I haven’t read the full thread for fear of spoilers, but I’m wondering, am I the only one finding DG to be completely void of charisma and charm? Zooey Deschanel (sp?) is one of those names I recognize but couldn’t necessarily name anything she’s been in. Does she always act solely with her neck?
But if he is a shape changer, how come he doesn’t look like Sidney Poitier instead of an old fat guy?
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. She was good in that. I wouldn’t judge any actor by how they perform in a Sci Fi Channel original; no one looks good in them except by sheer luck. I knew this was going to suck just like the other Sci Fi productions.
Didn’t see HHGTG and, in looking at her Wikipedia article, I don’t think I’ve seen anything else she’s done.
I must respectfully disagree with your blanket assessment of Sci Fi-produced show acting. The movies certainly suck and the new Flash Gordon is a joke, but the miniseries, at least the ones I’ve seen, have often contained quite good performances. I thought everyone in The Lost Room did a good job, the first Dune mini had some decent performances (and costumes which, though scanty, covered a multitude of acting sins), and many others of the cast of Tin Man are turning in good performances.
'Tis a pity the show itself is so terrible.
“Killing him won’t bring your Mother back.”
“No, but it will make me feel better.”
Was that a patch of trillium Toto was standing in?
What did I miss about the emerald? It seems it would be best to just keep it hidden until after the eclipse.
Oh, it’s not that I think the acting is bad, per se. It’s just that, well, look at the material these poor actors have to work with.
