I’m familiar with the Aerosmith song, but I have no idea what in the world it has to do with Barnie Fife or Andy Griffith.

Besides the explanation offered by **acsenray** , I’ve also been told that one reason for the “ink pen” phrasing is that “pen” and “pin” sound essentially the same in some dialects, and that the two words clarify that a request is for a writing instrument as opposed to a hair accessory or fastening device.
