I enjoy trying unusual (to me) canned/tinned food, and I find myself in possession of a few tins of cod roe (John West brand). How should I eat it? ---

You can drain the liquid from the can and eat it straight from the tin, spread it on crackers with a squeeze of lemon, or lightly fry it in a pan until slightly browned and serve on toast with a bit of seasoning. Your choice. Enjoy! ---

A couple/few weeks ago I saw a FB reel, 91-year-old Grandad Joe eating different things, where his daughter brought him some fried roe (one of his favourite foods). I’d never heard of it before, but now I want to try it. Kind of expensive, though. ---

They unfortunately remind me of cheap sardines. Mushy, featureless texture, bland canned fish flavor & aroma. I think the mild flavor and lack of spines, fins & stuff is the appeal but not my own. ---

Like any little tinned cod it won’t prove to be all that it’s crackered up to be.
